Amid swirling controversy over the burgeoning investigation into President Donald Trump's alleged Russia ties, groups are raising the alarm after the Trump administration on Thursday quietly unveiled its plan to roll back hundreds of Obama-era regulations aimed at shielding workers and the planet from corporate abuse.
I keep thinking of the word 'spite whenever I read about what new travesty Trump is subjecting us to! Like a petulant spoiled brat who likes to bully others, he grows increasingly spiteful when he doesn’t get his way or he feels like he is losing popularity!
Trump’s tantrums have grown quiet as he aged but you can see that he was that kind of brat when he was a kid. He’s becoming spiteful and the people of our country will suffer for it. Deregulation is one way of describing the protections we all count on in a civilized country. Is our food safe and wholesome? Are these chemicals dangerously toxic to us or our children? Will we feel assured that our medicines have been properly tested for side effects?
All these protections are being taken away from us for what reason?
A royal case of spitefulness perhaps?
I’m Pencive about the option, a theocracy.
But what will work in resisting these scum?
Last night, I got an e-mail from American Rights At Work asking that it send a polite e-mail asking the CEO of Nissan USA to stop their (largely illegal) repression of union organizing efforts at their Cantoin, Mississippi plant. It has the usual suggested wording as asked us to add our own points.
But what was the point? Is a US CEO really going to respond to “please!” - hats in our hands? So I thought - maybe I should will remind him that he is breaking the law under the NLRA. But what the fuck good will that do - Trump is packing the NLRB with union-busters!
No! It’s bullshit! When will those organized for social justice and labor rights re-learn, and re-learn, and re-learn that the capitalist’s will never, ever respond to polite appeals to “be nice”. They ONLY respond to ultimata which clearly state the consequences - from brave workers who are prepared to implement those consequences - of not acceding to out demands. And those consequences MUST be more costly to their assets and interests than the cost of acceding to our demands.
No change can happen without understanding this basic axiom of capitalist-worker material relations.
"In one respect, Buchanan was right: there is an inherent conflict between what he called “economic freedom” and political liberty. Complete freedom for billionaires means poverty, insecurity, pollution and collapsing public services for everyone else. Because we will not vote for this, it can be delivered only through deception and authoritarian control. The choice we face is between unfettered capitalism and democracy. You cannot have both.
- George Monbiot
Joining one or more of the following organizations and put out shoulders to the wheel to get rid of the scum.
Note, that these people support only candidates who pledge not to accept contributions from corporations and billionaires.
Democratic Socialists of America
Democracy for America
Progressive Democrats of America
Labor for Our Revolution
People for Bernie
Food and Water Action Fund
National Nurses United
Young Progressives Demanding Action
Single Payer Coalition
Common Defense PAC/Vets Against Hate
Working Families Party
Millennials for Revolution
Good Jobs Nation
These groups are filled with people just like you, all fighting for good, and it’s time for elected Democrats to get on board. The Democrats adopted the most progressive platform ever at the end of the 2016 primary. Now, it’s time to hold them accountable to that platform, and we need your help doing that. Together, we will pressure Democrats in Congress to sign on to eight bills currently in the House of Representatives.
Add your name to the #PeoplesPlatform today and show your reps where you stand.
This is what the tyranny of a minority looks like.
I really don’t have a lot of faith in the existing incredibly dysfunctional, obsolete, archaic, US constitutional order.
“Direct action gets the goods” as the Wobs say…
“In 1740 King Frederick II of Prussia invaded Silesia. As Frederick watched his troops assemble for the invasion, he told one of his generals that what struck him most about the scene was that ‘we are standing here in perfect safety, looking at 60,000 men – they are all our enemies, and there is not one of them who is not better armed and stronger than we are, and yet they all tremble in our presence, while we have no reason whatsoever to be afraid of them’. His men never revolted against him and many sacrificed their lives.” (Harari)
Only such subjective myths stand in the way of direct democracy.
It may be true that morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. It may be true that the law can’t change the heart, but it can restrain the heartless. It may be true that the law can’t make a man love me, but it can restrain him from putting me in harms way, stealing from me or from lynching me.
I am totally with you on your assessment above, but right now that is the only means we have to our disposal, until we get a chance to change it. As well there is a high probability that it will work.
The alternative, violent upheaval, is unthinkable. It would cause enormous bloodshed, destroy much of the last remaining vestiges of our infrastructure and most likely break up this nation into blue and red states or even fracture it beyond that.
This is why we need to get serious about total, Gandhian non cooperation.
Is this freedom, or is it simply license?
the dis-education of the people coupled with the “bread and circuses” of television and other forms of entertainment/distraction has had the desired effect on the population in that there is a perceived helplessness undermining democracy along with oligarchic domination and the insidiousness of austerity as a continuing excuse is appalling…the people don’t recognise their own power to change their condition because their minds have been co-opted by the system…the trump trickery is the most blatant example of this and yet people are passive in the face of this terminal oppression
“A product safety standard for mattresses’ flammability when it comes to cigarettes”
This is why Trump was elected. Not a dime or minute of our governments money or time should be spent trying to protect people who don’t exhibit good judgement.
There is no austerity. We spend 100’s of billions more than we take in.
