this may surprise some democrats, but I’m hoping for a Dem sweep of the runoffs, largely for the same reason most of you are: possibilities.
so, now we can hold hands and sing kumbaya for a week or so and for the love of christ, approve the package, get something out there, and hammer the airwaves about how the two D’s supported relief even when it could really hurt them (thus proving they put people above their ambitions, which is patently false, but it’s a cool stroy, bro).
Not sure how close the races are right now, but for Mitch to buckle at all, they must be too close for comfort.
Get this done, win your two seats and eke out the Senate, and let’s rerun 2008-2010 back thru the social science laboratory.
Flag pins notwithstanding, that party does not give a damn about America either.
But discreet and polite observers stay silent.
Bernie and the Squad pulled this off.
None of the recent CD articles on the relief package mentions the corporate liability shield. That’s not a great sign. A Politico article cited in an article here a few days ago asserted that there were reports that the liability shield was being dropped. Does anyone have firm information on where this is in the negotiations?
Swastika pins would be more appropiate!
Here’s a current report from The Hill, says that indeed the liability shield has been dropped from the bill, looks like McTurtle dropped that in exchange for dropping funding for states and municipalities:
“The GOP leader isn’t getting liability protection for businesses and other organizations but McConnell himself last week proposed dropping that controversial item along with another large tranche of funding for state and local government.”
Both the Liability Shield and monies for State / Local Governments have been dropped.
I have an eerie feeling that the amounts for individual taxpayers will be largely a ripoff as well. The Democratic Party candidates in Georgia ought to be able to mop the floor up with the two criminals currently holding senate seats, but with GA republicans “dumb being dumber,” there really needs to be a huge turnout for Oshoff and Warnock.
Yes, and as someone (apparently not from The Hill) said last night, it IS a significant defeat of McTurtle and for US subsidiaries of Global Megacorp, considering that their motto is “all for us and nothing for you” (with apologies to Oscar Hammerstein II).
Such sadistic nonhumans! They have enormous wealth and begrudge those in trouble any assistance. When the time comes for them to need assistance they need to be treated in kind. May the democrats win in Georgia to at least start a possible path to better outcomes and kick out the current monsters.
If all the Oligarchs want is a liability shield, Nancy and Obiden should use this as a lever to increase the minimum wage, increase SS benefits, approve wage replacement until the virus is done at least. It is not like the poor are getting anything out of liability of corps. People already have work comp thanks to FDR and Perkins. Only the trial lawyers win with this liability nonsense, like medical malpractice the companies can tie the case up for decades until every one dies.
And the NNU, Social Security Works, Bend the Arc. They have been unrelenting in Georgia run-offs. I was glad to have helped the NNU and got some friends to do likewise.
Absolutely. Just today Ossoff has changed his “ask” page from “statistical tie” to no comment on the poll numbers, and Warnock is claiming that they both have “a clear pathway to victory,” possibly suggesting that each has opened a small lead. But a quick scan of multiple polls finds most showing no more than a 2% lead for either candidate in either race, so effectively a dead heat.
Then there is this:
COVID-19 RELIEF DRAFT BILL PROVIDES $100 BILLION “DOUBLE-DIP” TAX DEDUCTION FOR THE WEALTHY
No stimulus checks, but big tax giveaways for well-connected business owners.
Are they going to remove this too?
Happy Anniversary, Scott!
Well, and if you believe the MSM, if democrats lose one or both races in GA, it’ll mean, “the country doesn’t want democrats to control both houses of congress and the white house.” Yeah right, like the country or even Georgians are that organized. The two major political parties put the money and organization into these races, not Joe Blow when he goes to vote in Timbuktu, Anywhere, USA. I’d put my money on the ruling democrats will happily lose these seats, then, of course, they won’t have to do anything, especially for the working class.
WaPost: Many Americans know nothing about their government.
The American voter, btw, these are adults: “A new survey by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania finds that things are getting worse: Just a quarter of Americans in the nationally representative survey could name all three branches of government — the worst showing on that question in six years. And this is even worse: Nearly a third could not name a single branch of government.”
yikes. mission accomplished in terms of eradicating anything approximating political education.
O/T: So it looks like Rahm Emanuel covered up video of another cop racist atrocity. He was Mayor till May 20 and this happened in February.
Let’s re-run 2008-2010…
Indeed! And this time without the audacity of hope that a slick sounding neoliberal will join with corrupt neocons to crush.
