Residents Campaigning to End DC’s Ties with Wells Fargo Over Bank’s Investments in Dakota Access Pipeline to Hold Rally, Support Bill

DC Re(sponsible) Investment Coalition

WASHINGTON - On Monday, March 20, and Tuesday, March 21, DC-area activists with #DCReInvest, a new grassroots coalition, will hold two back-to-back events to push DC’s City Council to cut financial ties with Wells Fargo over its investments in the Dakota Access Pipeline. A rally on Monday afternoon will build momentum for a bill to be introduced to City Council on Tuesday morning that would recommend severing DC’s relationship with Wells Fargo.

As someone who for a short time experienced the power of the Water Protectors at Standing Rock, I stand behind the DC groups that are pushing this divestment. All water everywhere, including the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay are endangered by unquestioning approvals of tar sands, shale oil, and methane gas pipelines and export terminals, whether by the Army Corps of Engineers, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or President Trump. Let's not let DC become the next Flint, Michigan! Let's cancel investments in pipelines, and invest in renewable energy and material reuse!
