Revealed: The Justice Dept's Secret Rules for Targeting Journalists With FISA Court Orders

Trevor Timm

Today, we are revealing—for the first time—the Justice Department’s rules for targeting journalists with secret FISA court orders. The documents were obtained as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by Freedom of the Press Foundation and Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.

We should not have anything like a FISA court in the first place, much less using their secret rules against the press. More proof we have shifted from a Democratic Republic to a Fascist State.

You see these goons that apply a dual standard for surveillance on us, than they allow us to have on them?

If you’re left leaning, that’s who you trust to expand government, to handle your health care, to provide for your upper level education, to school your children, and to keep you out of war.

When will it become obvious to all of you, they simply can’t be trusted with anything? How many times do you have to be stabbed in the back before you realize that the government as it now exists, cannot be trusted? The more power you give them, the more power they will abuse. The more money you give them the more powerful they are.

Why has the Trump administration been allowed to potentially use FISA court orders to target journalists that are an anathema to it’s policies?

You mean like the Obama administration which promulgated these rules? It’s simple - any regime in power wants to control the reporting on it’s application of power.

The sole purpose of any regime is to maintain its power. The only question is how far it will go in pursuit of that purpose.
