San Francisco Democrats Adopt Venezuela Stance Diametrically Opposed to Pelosi’s

Tom Gallagher

At its most recent monthly meeting, San Francisco’s Democratic County Central Committee adopted a resolution on Venezuela diametrically opposed to the stance taken by the city’s top Democrat, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who represents the lion’s share of the city’s voters. The resolution opposed “any military intervention in Venezuela; all covert interference in that nation’s affairs; the use of economic sanctions and assets seizures designed to further immiserate its people; and all further measures designed to impose so-called ‘regime change’ from Washington.”

It would appear that San Francisco’s Democratic County Central Committee does not receive funding from the military industrial complex (which, of course, includes Big Finance, Big Oil, etc.). Nancy Pelosi on the other hand…

I cannot speak for the Democratic Party as a whole as I fundamentally disagree with their positions on most everything, from their being ok with taking corporate money, to their insistence on not Impeaching a man who never deserved it more.

Nancy Pelosi should be impeached from her position.

One has to wonder what those ‘San Francisco values’ might be, as Pelosi continues to be re-elected.

They must really be okay with her centrist, establishment, neoliberal Corporate/MIC/Wall Street loyalty, at the expense of more progressive ‘liberal’ values and representation.

While we comment on various candidates for elected positions, it is those who would support the likes of a Pelosi who represent (no pun intended) the greater obstacle to substantial progress on the myriad of issues we face in the struggle.

Perhaps the Duopoly’s greatest accomplishment is simply giving the masses what they want.

If she doesn’t retire first, I’d like to see progressives in her district unite around a single candidate to run in the primary in the next election. Remember that California primaries have people from all parties run in the same primary and then the top two have a run-off. In 2018 there was just one Republican candidate who managed to make it into second place - but there were several progressive candidates all vying for the same votes. They could have easily beaten the Republican and then offered a better choice to the electorate in November if they weren’t so splintered. Speaker Pelosi probably would have won anyways - but at least the LOTE issue would have been removed from the discussion.

Why do they keep re-electing her?

There was one candidate - Cindy Sheehan - and she lost or at least that’s what the vote counters said.

That was back in 2008 in the old 8th Congressional district (she’s now in the 12th). I think the degree to which her district has moved to her left in those 11 years indicates it’s time for a new serious candidate to take her on.

Good on all those Dems, Pelosi is from the old guard who knows where all the bodies are buried in our international interference in other governments affairs.

We need transparency and put into light the fact that the US government in the peoples name have created destruction and death all over the world all in the name of spread democracy. But instead we installed dictators that cowtowed to the multi nationals who wanted their resources.

Congrats to SF Dem Central Committee. I so support what Ro Khanna & others are doing to protest this meddling of the U.S. in Venezuela’s affairs. My county’s Central Committee (of precinct committee persons) in Portland, OR (Multnomah Co.) also voted for a similar resolution on 2/14/19, by vote of 51 to 4. Our conclusion of resolution read as follows:
“Therefore, be it resolved that the Multnomah County Democratic Party calls on the Oregon congressional delegation to immediately enact legislation to remove all sanctions against Venezuela and oppose U.S. military and economic intervention against the sovereign nation of Venezuela.
Furthermore, be it resolved that we support good faith negotiations between the Maduro government and Venezuela’s opposition-led Congress, as well as diplomatic efforts as proposed by Mexico.”

The question is what and how many groups and organizations are petitioning other counyies to voice their objections. Power of numbers, public outcry, has to be big enough to matter.
Just as it is to redress our own country.

San Francisco’s Democratic County Central Committee:

ASK FOR PELOLSI’S RESIGNATION.

Time to end democrat support for right-wing crap. Especially regime change, and proceeding with warranted impeachment, let alone saving the planet due to climate change. All Pelosi foibles.
