Scientists Conclusively Link BP Oil Spill with Unprecedented Dolphin Die-Off

Deirdre Fulton, staff writer

Scientists have for the first time made a conclusive link between the 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and an unprecedented dolphin die-off along the Gulf's northern coast.

What I remember very well is the Tobacco industry executives lying straight out about the affects of smoking, while sitting before a congressional committee on the affects of tobacco smoking.
This should be enough for all of us to understand that profit comes before anything else, when there are billions of dollars at stake, human life or any other living thing is expendable.
Makes one wonder if we or any other species will be able to survive against such a screwed sense of priorities.
Hyman Minsky said capitalists will party themselves right off a cliff. They may party all of us and everything else off that cliff with them if they are allowed too.

If one gets the time and as not, they should read Einstein’s essay entitled ,“Why Socialism ?”.

Yes, all thou it was not widely publicized, Einstein was a believer in socialism over capitalism.

An excerpt from the essay:
“I have now reached the point where I may indicate briefly what to me constitutes the essence of the crisis of our time. It concerns the relationship of the individual to society. The individual has become more conscious than ever of his dependence upon society. But he does not experience this dependence as a positive asset, as an organic tie, as a protective force, but rather as a threat to his natural rights, or even to his economic existence. Moreover, his position in society is such that the egotistical drives of his make-up are constantly being accentuated, while his social drives, which are by nature weaker, progressively deteriorate. All human beings, whatever their position in society, are suffering from this process of deterioration. Unknowingly prisoners of their own egotism, they feel insecure, lonely, and deprived of the naive, simple, and unsophisticated enjoyment of life. Man can find meaning in life, short and perilous as it is, only through devoting himself to society.
The economic anarchy of capitalist society as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of the evil. We see before us a huge community of producers the members of which are unceasingly striving to deprive each other of the fruits of their collective labor—not by force, but on the whole in faithful compliance with legally established rules. In this respect, it is important to realize that the means of production—that is to say, the entire productive capacity that is needed for producing consumer goods as well as additional capital goods—may legally be, and for the most part are, the private property of individuals.”- Albert Einstein ( Why Socialism?)

Thank you!!

I concur with your sentiments whole heartedly.

What I find most mystifying is how these same scientists can take so very long to establish these links which are so OBVIOUS to many of those people without their training because “They have to follow scientific principles and get the science right” yet are so quick to approve the use of these toxins and poisons in the first place.

Who approved Corexit? Who decided risks of oil spills “Worth” the costs to the natural world. Where was science THEN before it became too late?

An alternative title might be: “DUHH…”

I recently read that dolphin brains are larger than human ones. Little surprise. We may well be killing off a superior species.

“I think it’s arrogant to blame BP for the random dolphin deaths.” -JEB

Just one small correction… Capitalists ARE partying themselves off a cliff…

So, here’s the thing… since we are already in a sixth mass extinction… and we are like a blink away from abrupt climate change… how is it that WE are not FOREGOING the USE of fossil fuels ourselves… me included… oh, sure we try to “cut down” our use… but… the longer we keep USING THE SYSTEM… the more we are adding to the problem… .by giving the FF companies… the CUSTOMERS they need… .I mean… we could all get together… . have a MASSIVE BOYCOTT OF THE SYSTEM…BAND TOGETHER TO HELP EACH OTHER… ESPECIALLY, RIGHT NOW IN THE SUMMER, WHEN PEOPLE COULD PUT THEIR FOOD IN THE GROUND… FROM THE SMALLEST OF FRONT LAWNS AND BACK YARDS… TO OLD FAMILY FARMERS WHO GAVE UP… they could have the people of the small towns… tend their fields… instead of worrying about m akin money from FRACKING… etc… WHY DON’T WE STEP BACK… AND TAKE AWAY OUR BUYING POWER… ?.. AS LONG AS WE KEEP USING OIL/COAL/GAS… WE WILL GIVE THEM THEIR MONEY TO KEEP ON GOING… and as for renewables… WELL, I think that ship has sailed… I am sorry to say…

…and see let me just add this… it’s the fact that if we DO NOT STOP THE FF USE… WE MAY AS WELL KISS OUR *SSES GOOD BYE WHERE AS IF WE GIVE UP THE GOOSE, WE CAN KEEP OUR PLANET… will it be hard??? Of course… but AGAIN… we can keep the PLANET…ABRUPT CLIMATE CHANGE IS COMING… IN A BLINK OF AN EYE…

“We may well be killing off a superior species.”
I have wondered that, not just the dolphins but other species also that somehow manage to put up with us without retaliating in someway.
Maybe it will be found in the future that “we” are not as far up on the evolutionary ladder as we have conned ourselves into believing. We are very good at patting ourselves on the back for our technological advancements.
But as Buddha said," the true measure of intelligence is the amount of empathy we have for our fellow man".

And I believe that he thought that should apply to all living things.
