Selling ‘Regime Change’ Wars to the Masses

John Pilger

American journalist Edward Bernays is often described as the man who invented modern propaganda. The nephew of Sigmund Freud, the pioneer of psychoanalysis, it was Bernays who coined the term “public relations” as a euphemism for spin and its deceptions.

In 1929, as a publicist for the cigarette industry, Bernays persuaded feminists to promote cigarettes for women by smoking in the New York Easter Parade – behavior then considered outlandish. One feminist, Ruth Booth, declared, “Women! Light another torch of freedom! Fight another sex taboo!”

Excellent article, thank you.
You just can't say it any more clearly. We are sold everything, including our wars. We're being sold right now and the Red Queen isn't even crowned yet.
In fact they are desperately trying to sell us the Red Queen.

Remember too that many of the ngo's have been co-opted by the deep state to help advance the Propoganda.

Some of the most alarming accounts of abuses from Libya came from these groups and later proved false.

Just by way of example. One of the most prominent such organizations posted a photograph of a devastated and bombed out city. The tag line claimed it as Aleppo and the body of the article referenced that photograph to claim no fly zones needed in Syria to prevent this atrocity.

The photograph was in fact of Gaza city after the Israeli's bombed it. ( this group never called for no fly zones on the Gaza Strip.

When this was pointed out they claimed it just a mistake and posted another photograph again claiming it destroyed by bombing by Syria And Russia

The problem is that while it was in fact Aleppo this time the photograph was taken at a time before Russia intervened in Syria and before there was an offensive launched by Syria on the same.

Indeed that photo was taken from a much earlier article taken just after the Jihadists took control and the damage was done by those so called moderates as they battled local militias in the city.

I recall way back in the Iraq war a photo of a massive crowd cheering the "liberation" of Baghdad from Saddam on the front page.

If one looked closely this photograph was photo shopped and the massive crowd was in fact only a handful of people. They cut and pasted the original photo several times over so the same people were in the photograph 10 times and more.

That paper admitted to doing this and justified doing this by suggesting that making it look like a larger crowd was to emphasis the spirit of the liberation.

This obviously not just about the media failing to question the narrative. It about the media actively acting in concert with the Corrupt government to promote war crimes.

Published Sept. 1, 2016: Below is a link to a 2013 interview of Putin, where he explains certain factors that must be taken into account in the Middle East. That interview is followed by the 2007 Amy Goodman, Democracy Now interview of General Wesley Clark, when Clark reveals the neocons' intentions to cause regime change in seven countries within five years: Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and finishing off with Iran. As noted in the text below the video, "They (the neocons) may not have met their deadline, but we are now assured that Clark was not making it up."

With regard to wars of regime change, we can be assured that Killary, if elected, has unfinished business to attend to.

An A+ description/analysis of the current route to the NWO. Thank you, John Pilger.

How on earth can we get the truth out to people? The powers that be find ways to silence or diminish those whose voices are loud enough to be heard. Even if the truth is allowed in an occasional op-ed piece the sheer weight of the propaganda makes the truth teller into an outlier, not to be taken seriously. Individuals who don't follow the script are diminished by accusations of wrongdoing like Julian Assange, or characterized as traitors like Edward Snowden, or jailed like Chelsea Manning and other whistleblowers.

Private citizens who try to spread the truth are looked on by their acquaintances as slightly mad, because 'everybody knows what really is happening' because they have been completely and purposely brainwashed.

President Duarte of the Philippines who told off the US over its past interventions there is portrayed as a looney-bin. I can only look to outside nations to stand up to us and citizens from other countries to stand up and take back their power. We the people of the US are being fed the poison of lies and in order to hide its taste It is mixed with the sickly sweetness of our fundamental goodness and innocence.

This election is revealing that the public is beginning to feel sick to our stomachs but we have no idea how ill we really are.

Bravo, John Pilger. It's a great pity that Pilger lacks the courage to follow his testimony as witness to the assassination f Bobby Kennedy. Pilger witnessed that Sirhan was on the floor disarmed, yet Several gun shots continued. Pilger must know that Sirhan was a patsy, just like Lee Harvey Oswald claimed to be.
The reason the US is so dangerous is because good men like Pilger remain silent.

One of the most important and consequential pieces I've ever read here, a bastion of forward thinking, and only 226 views. It leaves one feeling hopeless.

Quote: He replied that if journalists had done their job, “there is a very, very good chance we would not have gone to war in Iraq.”

I suspect there were powerful interests in the MSM that wanted the war in Iraq, primarily for the benefit if Israel, quite apart from their own bottom line.

This article seems to suggest, erroneously, that the MSM have had no dog in the fight. But the reality is that the same establishment has power in both the government and the media - I think that's fascism.

The MSM do not work in the interests of the American people.

The best chronicle of the U.S. empire, and it's horrible thirst for killing, at any cost, on behalf of crony capitalism, and globalization of the ruling, power elite.

Superb article. Thank you Mr Pilger. I am sending this to everyone I know, most of whom have bought into the líes of the shadow government and its media propaganda.

Good analysis, but it would be even better without embellishments, like "The explosions look like small atomic bombs" or "missiles with uranium warheads". Invoking ghosts of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is not justified in this case. Let's leave special effects to Hollywood producers.
