Senate Republicans (and One Democrat) Team Up to Open Arctic to Big Oil Plunder

Jake Johnson, staff writer

"Sacrificing our public lands and waters to benefit the oil and gas industry is both environmentally and fiscally irresponsible."

“Your people are driven by a terrible sense of deficiency. When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.”
—Alanis Obomsawin

Almost all the oil from Alaska is just as filthy, high sulphur content, as shale oil and only a very few refineries can legally refine it in US.
ALYESKA was joint owned By Japanese interest and that nation and China received 85% of Alaska export
Ever wonder how Alaska citizens get paid for oil exports; they surrendered 80% of Alaska lands to Fed ownership.
Ann Ocean going freighter that burns bunker oil from here to Cina pollutes the air worse than 2,000,000 miles of autos driven on US soil.
A diesel freighters burns around 1/2 that.
No one in US East Coast is worried about the environment destruction of BE Territories of Canada; in order to get the East Coast cheap natural gas from there.

So what is Alaska going to do for energy if they cannot use fossil fuels? Solar is out of the question as the position on the earth drastically limits the amount of energy they are exposed to, wind is problematic for construction periods and the amount of production period they can run for safety concerns, Alaska is limited in hydro resources, and tidal runs into the same issues as wind.

Not only are these depraved destroyers/killers “opening-up the arctic”, they are repealing the legacy of national protections for/of pristine and irreplaceable special places in America going back over 100 years!

“If a bill quietly working its way through the House of Representatives right now were law 111 years ago, Devil’s Tower wouldn’t have qualified as a national monument. Neither would the Grand Canyon, which Roosevelt protected as a monument in 1908 before it was made a national park. Nor would the Petrified Forest national park, Utah’s Zion national park, Bryce Canyon or many of America’s other legendary protected lands.”

The absolute evil and ignorance/greed of this regime and its sycophants know NO bounds - the most destructive in our nations history - does this mean nothing to people? The people all MUST fight-back against this criminal regime of greed and utter ignorance that thrives on the destruction of our collective legacy!

"The Antiquities Act is brief – just two sentences allow a president to set aside for federal protection “objects of historic or scientific interest”. It’s been used dozens of times by 16 presidents from both parties to preserve some of America’s most beloved wild lands and historic landmarks, laying the foundations for national parks and generations of family adventures. Many national parks – including South Dakota’s Badlands, Alaska’s Kenai Fjords and Nevada’s Death Valley – began as national monuments.

Those lands are now facing a two-headed assault from Congress and the Trump administration, and the act itself faces an uncertain future.

Well said! “Your people are driven by a terrible sense of deficiency”. One has to wonder how bad the destruction of our planet will have to get before they realize: TOO LATE! OMG! WHAT HAVE WE DONE!

We may have to kill people to protect our ecosystems. The politicians and the oil drillers shot on sight to protect what little nature we have. Fighting for what you believe in should not stop at democracy… We have to do what ever it takes to protect the environment.
