The Republicans don’t care, just like they don’t care about children in cages. They need to be thrown out.
The Republican Party needs to go the same way the Whig Party did. Unfortunately, there are about 40 million Republicans that do not agree with us!
we need to stop expecting miracles of “leadership” we haven’t gotten so far.
our allergy to taking power back from the abusive is our undoing. hope everyone who subscribes to the “just reason with them!” approach enjoys the heat!
they’re not going to rescue you. and since we’re not apparently up to the task of rescuing ourselves–for reasons as mysterious as they are frustrating–I suppose we should just start setting up the barbecue sauce for the Great Human Cookoff.
So, there is the answer: All we need is cooler buildings and higher bridges? As I noted yesterday, on another posting, global warming is trillions of dollar in capitalist opportunites…
Corporate Dems (those the NYT mistakenly call moderates: they should be called the radical status quo) are just as bad. Incremental steps mean next to nothing. This is an emergency and the wall street supported politicians are so attached to keeping wall street happy that they will allow the planet to become uninhabitable for short term profit.
That’s capitalism for ya. The dominant capitalist nation facing the anthopocene throws all its resources to millitary spending (both Parties!) rather than mitigating the danger to the life-sustaining aspects of our environment. It would rather start WWIII…
When Marxists say that capitalism is an “irrational system”, this is what they mean.
More accurately they are the extreme right wing of the ‘Democrat’ party and Moderates in the Republican party
It’s pretty obvious that the republican party does not want to spend money on the global climate crisis that needs it.
I think they believe the crisis is real, but also think it is a “solve your own problem” attitude.
Move to higher ground. Dig yourself a basement house to keep cool, etc.
They will never understand the premise of “No man is an island,” or “It takes a village” mentality.
That attitude will surely leave a lot of people in dire straights.
If it’s even still possible to effectively mitigate the unfolding catastrophe, it will take a huge collective & coordinated effort, far beyond carbon credits and tax breaks. But while we’re waiting for that to develop, doing what one can at the individual and local level may make a considerable difference in personal circumstances. At some point in the near future, survival will become its own ideology.
Massive flooding flooding somewhere almost daily, or heatwave or other way out weather abnormality.
And they all affect agriculture. More than buildings we need to provide for agriculture.
It’s way beyond climate change. It’s anthropogenic mass extinction.
The main cause is human overpopulation.
Other causes include consumer capitalism, use of animals for food, specieism, the petroindustrial grid, and the brutality with which humans treat all other species and the biosphere itself.
Human society has to be immediately reorganized around deep ecology principles if we’re to avoid committing total planetary ecocide by 2060 if not much sooner.
Can the bbq sauce be vegetarian please.
Agreed. With the decline in insects though, this will be difficult.
The U.N.? Who are they?.. This useless Entity reacts when Reality finally sets in? Again, What Action are they suggesting when so far not one thing has been done? How many Articles have we read of late about what’s happening all over the Globe? What’s their plan if Disasters start occurring on a daily basis? Guess we will be inundated with even more Climate News? Who’s responsible? We All Are! Sorry, but putting the Blame on out Idiot Leaders is a Cop - Out. The people have Ignored the warnings over the last 3 decades, when we were Told by the Science Community what would happen. The Climate HOAX is kicking our asses and will only get worse. Only thing we can do is get to Higher Ground like Stevie Wonder sang about. Maybe he’s already there.
I read the news today and it isn’t good. Mississippi had to close all beaches due to toxic algae blooms from polluted water draining out of the Mississippi River. It looks like Pence was incorrect suggesting that Amerika has the cleanest water in the world. So what’s a few sick people to these capitalist pigs.
While listening to Greta Thunberg’s address to the UN I kept remembering …
It’s important to stop pinning it on one party. Democrats don’t care either. They are refusing to host a climate debate. They’ve limited what debate time we’ve had to a few minutes of softball questions. Obama “All-of-the-above” wasted 8 precious years when he should have been moving us urgently in that direction. This is a matter of fighting BOTH parties, who take fossil fuel money and Wall Street money. Wall Street is heavily invested in fossil fuels. Look at where all those mutual funds and retirement accounts hold their money. Everyone stands to lose money if they divest from fossil fuels. But better that than lose our lives!!
