Supreme Court Will Hear ACLU Case About School Policy Forcing Transgender Students to Use Separate Restrooms

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court today announced it will review a decision from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals that found that federal anti-discrimination law protects the right of teenage boy who is transgender, to use the men’s restrooms at his Virginia high school.

Yet another red state's refusal to live in the 21st century.

The big thing is that the kids have been and are cool about it all; it's some right-winger parents who grabbed onto it and think they can, as @justbreathe says, roll back the calendar.

If it was your kid, you might see the importance. Every kid counts. Yes, it's a first-world problem, but only because our right-wing missions to the 3rd world have convinced them to reject the trans folk who've been part of their traditional cultures and not only bully them, but kill them. (They get killed here too, especially trans women of color.) This particular teen has been taking hormone therapy since he was 15 — see photo at

— and now personifies the kid the bathroom regulators don't want in their daughters' bathrooms. And believe me, the threat is to him in using a male-designated facility. What teen would choose to venture into a HS boys' room with any ambiguity in his gender? The ambiguity is resolved by his classmates knowing him to be a boy, as like him as the law and medical care can get him right now.
