The real problem with Bacevich and Van Buren is that they don’t seem to realize that these drones and their lethal missiles ARE serving American “interests”, just not ours. “Best” has little or nothing to do with it. Drones are a cheap and effective way to keep pressure on the area without resorting to large numbers of troops which are harder to explain. These war criminals accept the fact that they are creating pure terror from the sky against a lot of innocent people and they go ahead because our real “interests” are resource and geopolitical in nature. Its called “realpolitik” and it was made famous by none other than Mr. Evil himself, Henry Kissinger. He once said “There are no lasting friends or enemies in foreign policy, only interests.”
We’re indoctrinated at an early age into the consensual reality that’s been projected onto the world around us. Right wingers and left wingers alike are living at the extreme ends of the spectrum, and both are True Believers that they’re on an inside track.
We all follow the script without realizing what’s happening. Disappointment is one experience that begins to break the cycle of knowing what’s right and what’s wrong.
I read this and I come up with a definition of “terrorism” as being “the use of fear as a tool for coercion without applying actual force to the intended victim in order to control their actions and activities, thus maintaining the status quo.” The U.S. government has been the biggest purveyor of terrorism on the planet for many decades.
It reminds me of stuff I’ve read in the past that described the ambitions of Nazi rocket scientists to establish space-based weapons that could pinpoint and eliminate targets on earth’s surface while keeping their own personnel safe from potential physical harm.
Surveillance satellites and drones are harbingers of what’s in store if it’s not stopped soon.
I put this comment in another article, on how to lose Iraq, so it may not be permitted here, but I think it fits so I’ll try.
Everything seems to dodge around that fact that the wars are a great success and do exactly what the PTB want them to do. * War is the most profitable business the world has ever seen. The *Merchants of Death* make incredible profits as long as the wars continue and spread. The government buys their weapons, uses them and buys more. They sell to all sides of every war and make even more profits. * The only thing they fear is that someday, *people will commit peace.* * The hundreds of billions and trillions of profit during the cold war was like a Midas touch. More contracts, more designs, more overruns, more profits. * In 1991, when the *CCCP* collapsed,***W**e the **P**eople of the **W**orld* breathed a collective sigh of relief. Now we could have peace. Now we could rebuild the world, help common people to survive and prosper. Repair the damages and ravages of war, rebuild cities and villages. * Unfortunately, the *Merchants of Death* were thrown into a panic. They were looking at a reduction or elimination of profits. They might have to go back to producing stoves and refrigerators. A man buys a stove, he keeps it for twenty years. Where is the profit in that? Someone buys a thousand pound bomb and ***boom*** he has to buy another. That's real profit! * I'm sure the *CIA* and other *Black Ops specialists* were contacted and told to do their job, destabilize the world and create more profit making wars. They are good at what they do and so, we live in an ever expanding, ever more brutal, enormously profitable warfare state, while millions die, their nations destroyed, their resources raped, millions turned into refugees, who are further victimized. * The *0.001% Merchants of Death* raise their glasses high as they salute unimaginable profits and power from their strategy. * No, I'm sorry, but the expanding, ever more brutal wars around the globe have not been a failure. They have been the answer to the prayers of the *Merchants of Greed and Death*. ***Unlimited profit!*** * The only losers are ***W**e the **P**eople of the **W**orld*, forced to pay for it, and to die in the millions.
Until we awaken and take the power back, at whatever cost, from the 0.001%, that little group of men who own and control most of the world today, we shall live, and die, to preserve and increase their profits.
The first appears to be obsessed with feminist issues; something I wrote seemed to touch an emotional trigger that prompted some type of automatic outburst that has most likely exhibited itself a number of times in the past.
The second has adopted an intractable position that, at this time, cannot foresee the benefit of working together with those who identify themselves as conservatives to counteract and heal the divisions existing amongst the American population that was deliberated created and nurtured by those who control our political landscape.
If you want more examples you’ll have to search for them yourself.
Isn’t it amazing how so many corporatist (fascist), Neocon, Neoliberal folks who have never actually been in the military and only benefit from investments in the MIC, and the banks of course, are running for president?
The US practice of Drone murder and crowd killing are reprehensible war crimes. Reprehensible as well is the degree to which people, even those who consider themselves ‘progressive’, have come to support such crimes against humanity. Of course, these people all take for granted that drone murder and crowd killing are good because we do it against our ‘enemies’. Is there any doubt that they would universally condemn such tactics as crimes against humanity if used by our ‘enemies’ against people in the US?
Those with such cavalier attitudes regarding the fear, suffering, and death, that the US government afflicts on others, are ofter the first to condemn others as terrorist and to ask: “Why do they hate us?”.

Obama has shown the world what ‘Orwellian’ really means. The very flesh and bones of ‘1984’ has become reality. Like a cup of Earl Grey out of the food processor of the Enterprise.
From fiction to fact. What else could one call the pathology of a Nobel Peace Price recipient engaging in worse war crimes than anybody without that award would be able to pull off?[/quote]
I am no Obama supporter, but I can’t let this go by with comment.
There are a number of prestigious awards that seem more like gratuities that get handed out by international power brokers thru the institutions that do the actual awarding. There’s nothing magical about the Nobel Peace Prize. To begin with, Alfred Nobel’s fortune stemmed from his patents on the high explosive formulas he invented. This is the stuff that gets packed into warheads, artillery shells, and mortar rounds, none of which have peaceful uses.
Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize should tell us something. Instead of following through with the promises to reverse the neo-con preemptive wars, he allowed the military campaigns and black site detention centers to continue to exist. He also expanded the use of unmanned military drones to kill people, which is a purely terrorist activity, plain and simple. Apart from the plaque and the historical notation, the Nobel Peace Prize comes with a sizeable monetary award. By having the Prize awarded to Obama the international power brokers were luring Obama in and closer to their way of envisioning the world. It was, as it were, a foretaste of greater rewards to come.
Look at the fortune Bill Clinton has amassed since leaving the White House. He signed the Wall Street bankers’ bill into law and now they love having him come speak to them. He also has his foundation. Where do you thing that’s located?
Those in control of the far right in this country like to keep the republican voting base stirred up with propaganda about how bad Democrats are, especially those sitting in the White House and their spouses. Obama’s certainly failed to become the champion of democracy and liberty and unity and all that other good stuff he was talking about on his way to the White House. But your assessment above goes pretty far afield from the reality I’ve lived through.
Orwellian governance is what we saw in full bloom during the cheney/bush-2 mis-administration. Orwellian newspeak has been around for decades via Fox news and right wing talk radio. Bad as Obama may be, his evil pales in comparison to that of his predecessor(s) with the havoc and suffering they are responsible for having visited upon the world and our nation. Obama’s responsible for the deaths of only a few thousand people. bush-2 is responsible for somewhere between 200,000 and 400,000 deaths depending upon the statistical estimates you look at, as well as having contaminated an entire country with radioactive debris.
There is an economy of scale that still functions in the reality I live in.
Exactly right. Same lack of rationality we find in political “chicken hawks” who like to bluster about using American troops to solve problems. Easy for them to talk about, not having served in the armed forces themselves. There are nut cases in our military who like to go play Rambo; those become more prevalent as you go up the pay scale. Talk to an infantry private and ask them how much they enjoy protecting British Petroleum profits.
Whether its the drone killings or the slaughter of the Iraq war, I continue to be astonished how the mainstream public discourse moves on, now acting as if little really happened. A million (? more? less?) died in Iraq due to a war based on a lie. Innocent people die daily from drones. If any of these atrocities were visited on the American homeland, the nukes would be flying.
But mainstream America has moved on. The million(s) dead are old news that has no impact on todays foreign policy. And worse, we now hear that people who draw attention to America’s role in the creation of jihadis are a target of vitriolic criticism because such comments are inaccurate!!! And so the wheel turns. Ignorance and hubris wage violence which will inevitably produce more violence in return. The American military-industrial complex welcomes the opportunities and the profits to come. Conforming to propaganda is the American way.
And many Americans are trying to repeat it by following Bernie Sanders who also believes in drone warfare. Especially on this site, most posters are Sanders supporters. Sanders is still running in a corrupt party.
Well you are still living in the “Democrats are better than Republican” reality, which is not real to me at all…
Obama is the extension of Bush/Cheney.;
Obama is the absolute best in fooling people.
Once again many Democrats and Independents believe that the Iran deal and the Cuba deal have everything to do with peace. The jury is still out why those deals were really struck and it has nothing to do with Iran getting one nuke or not. Big business strongly supported those deals and they are already salivating.
The problem is that Nazism was dismantled in Germany, carefully packed up and imported to the United States, to help it become the Fourth Reich, which it has.
Well , quite frankly, one could argue Nazism was born in the United States. The ideology it expressed was exported to Germany with Nazis such as Prescott Bush helping to nurture it with monies so as to use it as a counter to Communism and the USSR and then reclaimed back to the USA when the Russians managed, at great cost , to defeat it.
Since that time the Nazi’s in the USA have been licking their chops and biding there time for another go at Russia and those resources that the 1 percent consider theirs by rights.
Welcome to Groundhog day.
Our war on peace must be stopped.
Not amazing to me; nevertheless, true!
I disagree somewhat with what you say. I too supported Cynthia and Jill in many ways. But Obama was elected because many people, especially young people believed in him. What people must come to realize is that Obama was trolled before us by the corporate, MIC, only because they knew Obama to be an Uncle Tom they could control. We took the bait and our country lost big time. I am going to publicly confess that I am going to put my faith in Bernie Sanders, and possibly work for him, and for two reasons: 1) if Bernie is true to his word (that is a big “if” in my mind due to what that liar, coward, fraud Obama did to the office of President, more importantly to the meaning of a man’s word) he will break up the banks which will begin the crumbling of corporate power and start the dismantling of our military machine which is literally destroying the USA and much of the rest of the world, and he will begin reigning in the outlandish wealth of the very few which has taken we the people back to the days of an aristocracy from which many of our ancestors thought they were escaping; and 2) Bernie Sanders is old. I truly have come to believe that this man is spending his remaining time on earth to begin the necessary reforms we need to survive as a people, a country, a species into the future. He will not go on to make $350,000+ speeches as a revolving door politician due to his age. If Bernie lets us down as to his word FOR A Political Revolution, then the vast majority of our population which is being beaten down by the wealthy few controlling our government, our resources, the very soul of our nation deserves our revolution which Thomas Jefferson suggested would be necessary for our nation to survive. We are at the cliff.
