Ten of 15 Cyber Charter Schools in PA Are Operating Without a Charter–Close Them All

Stephen Singer

Cyber charters schools are an experiment that failed.

It’s time to pull the plug and recoup our losses.

First, let’s get straight exactly what we’re talking about here.

Like all charter schools, these are contracted institutions. In fact, that’s what charter means – they’re independent businesses that sign a deal with the state to teach kids.

Charter schools and in particular cyber charter schools are a weapons against civilization. I will be the first to say that there are myriad areas of public education in need of drastic change, but charter schools just exacerbate the problems rather than ameliorate them. How in the world can a cyber school develop a citizen capable of working and playing with other human beings out in three-dimensional land? “Educating” young people in such detached forums will surely produce sociopaths at a much higher rate than experienced in traditional school environments. This goddamn dollar-driven trend has to be expunged from our society. The further commoditization of citizens as producers/consumers is killing society and providing a fertile ground for despair and detachment. The People need to rise up and crush this Profit Over People (Noam Chomsky, 1999) anti-exemplar.

We the people stood on the sidelines once again as we were being taken to the cleaners. This time with a racial twist to it.
