'Terrifying': Poll Shows 43% of Republicans Think Trump Should Have Power to Shutter News Outlets for 'Bad Behavior'

Jessica Corbett, staff writer

In the age of "media-bashing enthusiast" President Donald Trump—who regularly declares critical journalists and outlets "fake news" and "the enemy of the American people"—at least 43 percent of Republican respondents to a new survey said they believe "the president should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in bad behavior."

Hmmm interesting survey-----43% of the GOP think the President should be allowed t shutter news outlets for “bad behavior.”

Conversely, how many Americans think that Presidents should be shuttered for "bad behavior. : I’d like to see the results of that poll. : )

Judging from POTUS election results during the past half century its clear that at least 43% of Republicans have always and continue to support fascism, including this unitary executive strategy.

#4

Fortunately 43% of repubs is about 20% of the total, which is about the number of right wing radicals out there, but a very clear minority of the American public. Don’t let this small minority control things.

#5

Although they represent only 20% of the voters, they are backed by a lot of wealthy fascists who fund their faux grass roots actions. Such has been the case at least since the 1930s when Prescott Bush (Dubya’s grandpa), Henry Ford, and other US fascists who wanted the US to go fascist attempted to assassinate FDR.

The age old question of " whose oxe is getting gored " and the command to " follow the money " means journalists and news orgs. are right there with politicians, lawyers and dentists as the least loved of our professional class.
So what, really? The 1st Amendment Amigos are our best friends in the end. Why; because they’re like our best friends and tell us a whole bunch of things we probably don’t what to hear. About our heroes, our enemies, our country and the world. Life is not about being comfortable as much as it is about making the whole joint comfortable for everyone, pretty much. Good information does that. Just sayin’.

Conservatives are the embodiment of stupidity and death.

#8

While liberals and progressives divide, Republicons coalesce like turds in the water and pollution and corruption rule.

#9

The tyranny of the idiot mob - “democracy” as some want it…and work overtime to make it, as they trash and destroy our constitutional republic Of the People, By the people, and for the people!..give me a benevolent constitutional monarchy…with a queen…instead of a fraudulent so-called “democracy” that has been corrupted into a tool for the unprincipled wealthy, corporate greed, banker/wall street usury, and the MICC war-machine - profits over people (or the nutter trump regime) is NOT what the Founders had in mind!

#10

Forty-three percent of Republicans don’t read. Corporate news has whitewashed truth into a delusional soup. We can bomb kids and the kids are the terrorists so we shouldn’t expect too much. The DNC has retooled the Clinton campaign. Great American nightmare.

#11

Yeah but this maniac thinks he’s King Richard, or Napoleon. Thinks he can do anything. And there are many who think so too, which is even scarier

#12

This shouldn’t be that surprising. One poll found that 9% of Americans agree with neo-Nazis. And during WWII a poll found that one in six Americans agreed with the Nazis. Also for years conservative hate radio and other news sources has attacked the mainstream media which is necessary for the right wing extremists so people will believe their lies. Getting people to believe lies is central to fascism. As it is often said there is an alternative right wing universe. And now the Russians are expanding the number of people in that universe as they try to turn the US into an autocracy.

#13

If obfuscation and fabrication in service to our exploiters is evidence of an “enemy”, then the corpress qualifies in spades.

That, of course, is not what has Killer Clown’s knickers in a twist, is it?

#14

No Killer Clown cares not about moral misgivings but the anonymous dark of night, like pulling the curtain closed behind the Wizard, the stench of crumbling worlds raked clean from the dying gasps of imperialism. Our world is morphing; but what will we be?

#15

Fat chance of this ever happening, given that the elites and the C.I.A. own most of the MSM.

#16

As Adolph Hitler said tell a big lie and tell it often.

#17

Morphing? It seems more like crumbling to me.

#18

This is the implementation of fascist ideology by the text book. The Nazis called it “Gleichschaltung”, the consolidation of institutional powers which includes the Fourth Estate…

#19

When Democrats regain control, shutter Fux Noise

#20

Pffft we don’t have to wait that long if the banning of Alex Jones is any indication.
