Good article from Hartmann here. If you’e thinking it’s a little over the top, please consider what the crazy Right-wing Legislators in Georgia and Alabama have just done.
Those 2 states, if not now de-facto theocracies, are very close to being so. Several other
states are on their way to enacting similar laws.

Fundamentalist/Evangelical “Christians” are, as it turns out, not much different from Fundamentalist/Radical Islamists.

The real threats to our “democracy” are not migrants, nor Russia, nor Venezuela, nor China, nor Iran. The real forces of civil and environmental destruction are already here, comfortably ensconced in our centers of power.

By 2060, it is estimated that immigration will account for 36% of the population. They will be subject to the same draconian laws unless this changes. It is no exaggeration that these things are happening and we haven’t even discussed how these laws would be enforced.

This is the kind of backwards religious dictatorship the Dominionists are chomping at the bit to creat nation wide. They have a very orgainzed plan for infiltrating and assuming government offices beginning at the local level and moving up. They bear watching very closely.

I agree. The enemy is within.

Making laws based on personal moral values. How quaint. There are so many problems with this statement. The law should be as free as possible of moral values and judgements based on personal, moral or religious beliefs. That’s about as basic an example of separation of church and state there is; and if looked at from a constitutional originalist’s eye, the separation is more stark. Nothing more need be said. The other fundamental issue is EVERYONE’S right to health care privacy. Privacy means it’s no one’s business, period. Especially Big Brother. One more thing, those who make the laws don’t really care about women or folks in general. They care about being re-elected.

If it weren’t for legislating religious “morality” ala “Christian morality” we wouldn’t have had Prohibition, gambling laws, prostitution laws, drugs laws, and 2.5 million citizens languishing in prison thanks to those drug laws. Thanks Joe Biden and company.

Clearly these fundamentalists need to be reminded that we have the separation of church and state in our laws. Furthermore, when you have a nation made of people of different religions and no religions this is the only way to keep one group from dominating another.

Maybe someone should make a deal. We will allow abortion to be illegal if all money crimes result in the death penalty.
Absurd isn’t they?

Perhaps there is a feeling that white women need to stop aborting to keep the racial numbers to benefit at the poles.

Alabama’s laws are unconstitutional and unenforceable. That said, the statistics on states that have passed restrictions to reproductive health care have shown little change in maternal mortality of people of color but increases for white people. It creates a creepy sort of equality. It varies by state, Elizabeth Warren’s plan makes a lot of sense to stop states from saying what medical procedures a person can get.

This examples are all very pertinent and I am sure there many others. Oftimes when a law is simply described it hard to recognize the full impact of it. When real world examples are given as to the consequences of said laws, people get a much better grasps as to how it will be used to oppress and punish.

White women are more likely to have the means to be able to access reproductive rights including abortion. In Alabama and Georgia, the infant mortality rate is high since reproductive rights which include prenatal care are often unavailable for them since there are few facilities and those are located in urban areas.

“Poles”, I think you mean, polls.

In Thom’s article here, he points out that while abortions were outlawed in Poland, children were abused, starved and abandoned. That’s NOT! going to increase Rethuglicon votes. In fact, rightwing nutbags may find their holier-than-thou anti-women program will backfire on them. Everything else does.

No matter your personal beliefs about abortion, this is wrong. The Evangelicals seem hell-bent on becoming their own version of Sharia law. This is what happens when one group’s personal beliefs are “legislated”. Christianity was intended to be shared with others who have the God-given free will to decide for themselves. Clearly this is not a Christian attitude. They are using Christianity to advance their own agendas against women, immigrants, and whoever else does not fit their mold. Can interment camps and trainloads of gased people be that far away? I am not a fan of abortion, but I am pro-choice. Stephen Miller being an advisor to the US President is all we need to know here.

How about we lean on Pelosi to jail Barr, Mnuchin and any other republican who refuses a House committee subpoena? No second chance. You say you won’t comply or miss your hearing date then the Sergeant at Arms, accompanied by the Capitol police, show up at your office with an arrest warrant withing the hour. What we have now is intolerable and Pelosi needs to grow some ovaries and go after these A-holes. Everyday these A-holes get away with this emboldens them.

My dream is to have twenty five WOMEN of color pass a law, decree or papal edict that any man who refuses to have a vasectomy after sperming three offsprings is incarcerated for life.
vindictive ? yes !

I believe that the article wrote about a different country. It was not Poland but Romania.
