Let’s add one more crime punishable by death - the crime of politicians creating so much needless suffering for so many millions, based on deception and bald faced, narcissistic power.

An entire pivotal element which in turn impacts ALL elements of the justice system is the abuse of “plea bargaining”.
Here is just one example of the scholarly study of the plea deal/agreement
“Until systematic reform occurs, the innocent will continue to experience injustice in the name of judicial efficiency”

The petty crimes of the poor are amplified by the police state, to justify their cruelty.

So the argument here is that the New ‘Black Codes’ are an outgrowth of the old ‘Black Codes’ i.e. Jim Crow/ segregation/ Black ghettos in America persists and continues to be enforced by strategies of terror (although here the weapons and means (ex. more extensive prison system, militarized force concentrating on policing the borders where races contact, for-profit eviction business ventures , new spoken and unspoken laws, etc.) have devolved.

What’s missing? How has Trump amplified the divide… and here one might want (though not politically correct) to speculate on Biden’s popularity among Blacks as relational to a culture of fear, as well as the Obama legacy candidate, perhaps his paternalistic folksy/ stuttering drawl, etc

Holiday sentiments along the same lines, from Glen Ford:

The near-erasure of Native Americans in Massachusetts and, soon thereafter, from most of the remainder of the northern English colonial seaboard was the true mission of the Pilgrim enterprise – Act One of the American Dream. African Slavery commenced contemporaneously – an overlapping and ultimately inseparable Act Two.

The last Act in the American drama must be the “root and branch” eradication of all vestiges of Act One and Two – America’s seminal crimes and formative projects. Thanksgiving as presently celebrated – that is, as a national political event – is an affront to civilization.

Absolutely, judges need stricter guide lines.

With more and more gestapo, the private gun ownership question arises once again.

Why doesn’t Clarence Thomas or Kamala Harris write an article like this?

Do you think they would even read it?

“The vast pools of the unemployed and underemployed, especially among people of color, are part of the design of predatory corporate capitalism. And so are the institutions, especially the police, the courts, the jails and the prisons, tasked with maintaining social control of those the system has cast aside.”

Actually, I understand that quote on a very personal level.

The problem with gun ownership in this country is that it is heavily concentrated in conservative white America and these gun owners are far more likely to back the gestapo. A big factor in increased gun sales since the 90s had been self-defense type guns bought out of fear of blacks, criminals and all the boogeymen the oligarchy has created, not fear of the gestapo.

I think we now need to add the component of climate change to all such articles, since climate change is going to be an ever greater factor in social unrest and, obviously, the oligarchy will go to great lengths to put down any grass roots movements for needed change on that front.

Since Katrina, we’ve seen medieval horrors of injustice for the dispossessed, ensuing from planetary dispossession. Targets of genocide, dwelling in the lowlands, are first in line to the global gas chamber.

The system works exactly as it is designed to work. And until the system of corporate power is destroyed, nothing will change for the poor, or the rest of Americans. Mr. Hedges, as usual, nails it!

Neither are Rev. Al Sharpton or preachers of fundy or evangelical money worship; you know, the " prosperity gospel proselytizers " who prey on the poor and working classes.
The Hispanic community has their fair share of these church-mining bamboozlers; which was a learned Bible Thumper swindle from white male flim-flammers, of course. The historical list of American religious no-goods is thicker than an old NYC phone book.

Amen to that! Er, I mean… I agree!

I experienced the blockbusting in East New York referenced in the article. It was known and talked about but nobody did anything to stop it. The neighborhood descended into violence (Murder capital) after it had been remade into a segregated abandoned colony where gangs vied for control of street drug rackets
