The New York Times and Washington Post are ignoring civilians killed by US drone strikes

Jeff Bachman

The Obama administration has repeatedly claimed its drone strikes are precise and conducted in compliance with international law.

Yet, information provided to online journal The Intercept by an unnamed source paints a different picture.

A solid article to point out the dominant U.S. corporate media reporting that displays gross devaluation of Muslims' lives, and of all people targeted by U.S. warfare in general. The following passage, however, might have been set up a little clearer:

"The 81 NYT articles covered the same number of attacks. TBIJ found that civilians were killed in 26 of the 81 attacks – a rate of 32%. Yet, the NYT reported civilians killed in only two of those 26 attacks – a rate of 7.7%.

"The 26 WP articles covered 26 separate attacks. TBIJ found that civilians were killed in seven of the 26 attacks – a rate of 27%. The WP, however, reported civilians killed in only one of those seven attacks – a rate of 14%."

On first look, it seems we are comparing 32% to 7.7% and 27% to 14%. That would be misleading to an uncareful reader. The crux of the matter is that the NYT is disappearing 92.3% of all documented civilian deaths by U.S. drones!!! (100% - 7.7% = 92.3% disappeared.) And WP is disappearing 86% (100% - 14%) of the moms, dads, children, and everyday people blown up by the U.S. drones. And all that is just on the drone attacks that are reported.

It would seem our NYT and WP, and all the outlets who spread their lies, don't care about human lives and terrorism--respectively "theirs" and "ours," that is.
