The Orwellian Re-Branding of “Mass Surveillance” as Merely “Bulk Collection”

The Orwellian Re-Branding of “Mass Surveillance” as Merely “Bulk Collection”

Glenn Greenwald

Just as the Bush administration and the U.S. media re-labelled “torture” with the Orwellian euphemism “enhanced interrogation techniques” to make it more palatable, the governments and media of the Five Eyes surveillance alliance are now attempting to re-brand “mass surveillance” as “bulk collection” in order to make it less menacing (and less illegal).

When governments usurp their own Constitutions they cease to be legitimate. Unfortunately, today’s near total powers have sophisticated weapons and are using surveillance as a means of pre-empting any opposition to their own diabolical ends and near totalitarian controls.

Sooner or later major sun spot activity will take this whole drift net down and show the bastards who’s really boss.

It couldn’t happen soon enough.

The hubris of the Mars-ruled stinks to high heaven.

A lot of people are complaining about our attempts to protect them by identifying terrorist plots before they happen. We do not agree with their foolhardy whining, but are willing to offer an accommodation none-the-less.
