'The Power is in Our Hands': Virginia Students Protest Coal Ash Dumping

Nika Knight, staff writer

"Repeal Dominion's permits!" protesters shouted in unison on Monday during an hours-long occupation of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) in Richmond. The state regulator has come under fire for issuing a permit to Dominion Power in January that will allow the utility company to release millions of gallons of toxic coal-ash water into local waterways.

“You are all domestic terrorists”; the real terrorist threat.

Regulators should be held responsible for decisions that affect people’s health. These are domestic terrorists whom we call executives who will not have to drink the water nor shower in it when that toxic sludge is discharged into the river and should be held responsible as well. Then watch how fast they decide that the toxic sludge should be disposed of in another way.

Hold them responsible for making decisions affecting the public’s health!

Yes they should be held responsible but as tools of the state they will not be until the commons take the lead in filing suits (backed by millions of petitioning signatures) against the agencies and those individuals particularly culpable.
