The Prisoners’ Revolt: The Real Reasons behind the Palestinian Hunger Strike

The Prisoners’ Revolt: The Real Reasons behind the Palestinian Hunger Strike

Ramzy Baroud

Gaza is the world’s largest open air prison. The West Bank is a prison, too, segmented into various wards, known as areas A, B and C. In fact, all Palestinians are subjected to varied degrees of military restrictions. At some level, they are all prisoners.

"Trump's subsequent silence amounts to the blessing of the US Government for this grotesque vision of enduring Subjugation and Dispossession of the Palestinians."

Our Government is nothing less than the ROLE MODEL.

"Keep movin' West, Cochise, we'll tell you when to stop..."

No wonder why our 2 countries are joined at the hip.

Every time Israel offers to end the occupation, the Palestinians say “No!”
Even Prince Bandar bin Sultan of Saudi Arabia (certainly not a Zionist) said that Arafat’s refusal to accept the January 2001 offer was a crime. Thousands of people would die because of Arafat’s decision & not one of those deaths could be justified.

As Clinton later wrote in his memoir:
It was historic: an Israeli government had said that to get peace, there would be a Palestinian state in roughly 97 percent of the West Bank, counting the [land] swap, and all of Gaza, where Israel also had settlements. The ball was in Arafat’s court.
But Arafat would not, or could not, bring an end to the conflict. “I still didn’t believe Arafat would make such a colossal mistake,” Clinton wrote. “The deal was so good I couldn’t believe anyone would be foolish enough to let it go.” But the moment slipped away. “Arafat never said no; he just couldn’t bring himself to say yes.”

Exactly why are Jews by virtue of their ethnicity superior to Arabs?

:sweat_smile:Well, if Bandar Bush and Bill think the Palestinians are wrong, then....:grinning::laughing:

According to the Old Testament, Jews are "God's chosen people". This ancient book's racist and primitive parables are constantly reinforced by many Jews everyday from synagogues to the dinner table. Meanwhile, as more and more Jews reject the entire concept of "God", most Jews still wish to retain the sense of racial superiority as they spout the names of famous western icons from Einstein and Freud to Marx and Jesus to seemingly prove their point. This concept of a superior race is similar to white supremacists in the U.S. We usually only know of the more conspicuous white race proselytizers, but in reality far more Americans silently agree with them as the election of Trump has shown the world.
Racism is alive and well and unfortunately we don't have to travel very far to see it.

After world war 2, Germany had a choice. It could sign a treaty relinquishing 25% of its territory or it could resist.
Germany signed the treaty & has had 70 years of peace & prosperity.
Palestinians refused to sign a treaty & has had many years of war & poverty.
Who made the better choice?

Southern whites wouldn’t let blacks go their schools & wouldn’t build black schools, so Julius Rosenwald, a Jew, built thousands of schools for black kids.
Jews helped found the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.)
Jewish Freedom Riders died helping to desegregate the South.

Don't conflate 'Jewish people' with the international war criminals that has been the Israeli government for generations. These international war criminals have been exposed in Israel itself by people such as Gideon Levy writing in the Israeli paper Haaretz for decades. The oppressor, the occupier, has done everthing to assure that no 'peace' aggreement would ever come about. This is all well documented, disconcerting as its been to the lying propagandists like yourself.

Refresh you memory with this response (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mk18af8z9Y) in 2009 by Zbigniew Brzezinsk, no card-carrying peacenik, to the same bs lies that you're toting. Brzezinski was there at the TABA negotiations.
And comparing Germany of WWII to the assaulted and occupied Palestinians shows where your moral compass lies.

The day after the UN Partition Resolution in November 1947, racist, xenophobic Palestinians started a genocidal war to exterminate the Jews. Haj Amin el-Husseini – “I declare a holy war, my Muslim brothers! Murder the Jews! Murder them all!”

Zionism didn't always reflect the murderous right wing propaganda and 'racist xenophobic' behavior that you parrot. At an internal political party discussion in October of 1930, David Ben-Gurion said: “The regime in Palestine must at all times assure both the Jews and the Arabs the possibility of unhampered development and full national independence, so as to rule out any domination by Arabs of Jews or by Jews of Arabs. …..”

In 1931, speaking before the 17th Zionist Congress Ben-Gurion stated: “We declare before world opinion, before the workers movement, and before the Arab world, that we shall not agree, either now or in the future, to the rule of one national group over the other. Nor do we accept the idea of a Jewish state, which would eventually mean Jewish domination of Arabs in Palestine”.

Before the Royal Commission in 1937, Ben-Gurion testified that: “If Palestine were uninhabited we might have asked for a Jewish state, for then it would not harm anyone else. But there are other residents in Palestine, and just as we do not wish to be at the mercy of others, they too have the right not to be at the mercy of the Jews”.

Ben-Gurion once wrote that only an insane person could attribute to Zionism the wish to force any of the Arab community from their homes, saying: “Zionism has not come to inherit its place or to build on its ruins....We have no right to harm a single Arab child, even if with this we could achieve all that we wish.”

Yet no group or society could ignore the potential the Zionist activities could or would lead to. The Arabs reacted as any group would. Ben-Gurion's statements about fairness and justice were in contravention to other statements and written material of his, as they pertained to Ben-Gurion's views of Zionism and reality. Which justified the Palestinian Arabs concerns about how much trust can be given to colonialists and occupiers as with the British and Zionists.

Even during WWII and into the later 1940's, despite the traumatizing effects of the Holocaust, there were continuing cooperative efforts by left Jewish and Arab groups. They had worked together for decades against British practices. But they were 'unofficial' groups and not having the clout of a now central government. British, Jewish and Arabs fascist forces engaged in campaigns of terror against Jews and Arabs who pushed for cooperation. A type of unwritten holy alliance which led to the separation of Jews and Arabs. Not that Zionism didn't have that potential. Ben-Gurion and others were now changing their positions by saying that the Palestinians can either flee or be treated like dogs. Saying, as did Golda Meir, that the boundary for Israel is where Jews were living and not lines on a map. As in the West Bank with its fertile land and much needed water. From saying they have no right to harm a single Arab child to giving orders for the military to shoot at anything, even the sound of a crying infant. That's quite a sea change in moral behavior. But then the right wing the world over are rarely bothered by moral considerations.

Is that where you place yourself, JackGreen? In an overly simplified cult like world view, which only requires a couple of cherry-picked Wiki searches to justify your 'reasoning'.

Hadassah University Medical Center in Israel established a registry for Arab donors of bone marrow and stem cells to facilitate life-saving transplants. The registry at Hadassah Hospital is the only one in the world for Arabs and will no doubt save the lives not only of Arab Israelis but also of some citizens of Arab countries, not a single one of which has a registry of its own.

Khaled Abu Toameh, the journalist who reports for the Jerusalem Post, U.S. News & World Report and NBC News, put it: "Israel is a wonderful place to live ... a free and open country. I would rather live in Israel as a second class citizen than as a first class citizen in Cairo, Gaza, Amman or Ramallah."

Arab women in Israel live longer than Arab women in any Arab country.
Arab babies in Israel have lower infant mortality than Arab babies in any Arab country.

Palestinians have been oppressing Jews for centuries.

In 1839, the British consul, William Young, said that the poor Jew in Jerusalem...lives from day to day in terror of his life....Young attributed the plight of the Jew in Jerusalem to “the blind hatred and ignorant prejudice of a fanatical populace,”

New York Times December 29, 1878
Crowded together in the worst lodgings, or in the dark cellars under a synagogue building, without food, fuel, or water –even water at Jerusalem being a commodity of price – numbers died of starvation and various diseases, while others went raving mad. Those who could labor were denied employment by the bigotry of the Mussulmans and of the Oriental Christians.

Notice the date. This was before the first Zionists arrived in Palestine. Notice the word bigotry.

Jews had lived for centuries in Hebron & Gaza until they were ethnically cleansed from those areas in 1929.
During the week of riots from 23 to 29 August, 133 Jews were killed by Arabs and 339 others were injured,
and now Palestinians oppress Israelis

Running over Israelis is oppression.
Stabbing Israelis is oppression.
Shooting Israelis is oppression.
Firing rockets at Israelis is oppression.
Blowing up Israelis is oppression.
Throwing rocks at Israelis is oppression.

War crimes, Jack, war crimes. Arab women and Arab babies are not the victims of “Mowing the Lawn” and other vulgar metaphors when in the mist of Jewish Israelis. War crimes. Your borrowed line “....I would rather live in Israel as a second class citizen....” pretty much says it all for a war crimes apologist.

Your comments could be taken directly from Third Reich propaganda. It's a wonder Goebbels doesn't rise from his grave and sue you for copyright violations. You do seem to be fond of 'alternative history'. I bet you have an autographed copy of Joan Peters 'From Time Immemorial'. Although some still call lying a sin.

The British gave the Zionist position the choice for obvious reasons of expediency as when Arthur Balfour stated in a 1919 memorandum, in part: “....The four great powers are committed to Zionism and Zionism, be it right or wrong, good or bad, is rooted in a age-long tradition, in present needs, in future hopes, of far profounder import than the desires and prejudices of the 700,000 Arabs who now inhabit that land.”

One of the all time colonial powers, a colonial power of whom it was said the sun never sets on its empire, is telling the Palestine Arabs that they aren't worth spit. There's not a society in human history that would have accepted that. And do make note of the date. This was AFTER the initiation of Zionist immigration into Palestine.

You trolling efforts at Damage Control are getting more and more lame. Dipping deep into the early parts of the 19th century. What...no comments from Ottoman officials? You call that an honest effort? You can't hide it, Jack. WAR CRIMES. Fifty years of occupation, decades prior to that of obvious Zionist preparations for expansions and permanent control, as David Ben-Gurion was kind enough to leave records of proof. Wasn't that nice of him, Jack?

When the Nazis attacked Britain, the British did more than throw stones. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, the US military did more that throw stones. Fifty years of criminal occupation, physical assaults, destruction of homes, killings (murders by international law), stealing of land, property, water, the breaking of Palestinian land into disparate sections, unconnected and making them virtually inaccessible with constant check points for the roads the Palestinians must use but check point free roads for Jewish citizens. Delays for Arabs at any of those check points whenever the Israelis deemed fit. How many Jewish births happened in a vehicle because the 'check points' intentionally delayed their trip to a hospital? Or Jewish Israelis who died en route to a hospital because of these 'delays'. But then, Jewish roads don't have check points, do they, Jack. Are Israelis kept at the point of near starvation because an occupier controls what goes in or out of Israel? Perpetual poverty, lack of privacy, lack of fundamental freedoms. Gee, Jack, I can't figure why Palestinians don't have longer life spans?

If the Egyptians try to occupy Israel, what do you think the Israelis would do? Garland them with flowers? What do think, Jack?

You may recall, Jack, that the Nuremberg Trials called aggression the 'Supreme Crime'. And that those responsible for that aggression are responsible for everything that flows from that Supreme Crime. Including the social tensions that create stone throwing. I admit that the winners make the rules, but the moral picture is pretty clear. The war criminals in Israel are repeating what war criminals have done throughout history, including the US. Indeed, Jack, Israel is the de facto 51st state of the US, getting more federal funding, ie: US tax payer money, than any of the other 50 states. You mentioned the Jerusalem Post reporter who said “Israel is a wonderful place to live...”. But then so is Saudi Arabia...if you have enough rights and privileges.

One of the most egregious crimes by the monsters in the US, such as Kissinger, and in Israel, is what could have been. There was a chance for peace, security and cooperation. But the monsters chose 'stalemate', as they euphemistically called it. Perpetual aggression. Perpetual expansions. Perpetual wars. It's the difference difference between day and night, or to put it in a biblical sense, heaven or hell. As that labor clarion call asked, 'which side are you on?' Good or Evil. Go back a century in Palestine and note the cooperation of Jewish and Arabs groups. Those 'unofficial' groups I mentioned in a previous comment. Those were socialists groups. Western propaganda has declared anything 'socialist' as a threat. Democracy is always a threat to power, isn't it, Jack?

Israel is usually ranked in international polls near North Korea. But as long as any apartheid state has US approval, that's all that matters. Isn't that right, Jack?

Of what war crimes are you accusing Israel? Please be specific.

"... a study published by the United Nations showed "that the ratio of civilian to combatant deaths in Gaza was by far the lowest in any asymmetric conflict in the history of warfare."

The aggressor is the one who starts the violence.
In March 1920, Arabs attacked Tel Hai killing 8 Jews.

From your 'UN study' comment:

"that the ratio of civilian to combatant deaths in Gaza was by far the lowest in any asymmetric conflict in the history of warfare."

“Asymmetric” in the context of Gaza is synonymous with massacre. A totally controlled population, confined into a tightly packed region and occupied for half a century vs. the 4th largest, high tech military on the planet and who is joined at the hip with the US military. The 'Mowing of the Lawn' is all Israel's doing. It's called murder. War Crimes. You're not preaching to the choir here, Jack. Israeli war crimes. You ask me to be specific. Here...W-A-R C-R-I-M-E-S. Now if you want citations, here's a mere drop in the bucket that are public.

And here are some Israeli writers and historians who have written about Israeli government 'misdeeds':

Ilan Pappé (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilan_Papp%C3%A9),

Benny Morris (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benny_Morris),

Gideon Levy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gideon_Levy).

And there are p-l-e-n-t-y others. In Israel and elsewhere. People like Chomsky and Pappé are literal archives. They blow away the lies and propaganda like fluff in a storm. Chomsky books are packed with footnotes and citations. These are heroes. People who can't live with false reality. Especially as it effects people's lives. If there's a Judgment Day they will fly through it.

There's also an aboundance of videos, proving there are plenty of real human beings in the world. Again, a mere drop in the bucket.

etc, etc, etc.

I have no pretense that you, Jack, will pay any attention to this. But to counter monsters and their apologists is alway worthwhile.
