The Quest to Keep Nonviolent Offenders From Being 'Buried Alive'

Rebekah Barber

Last month President Trump commuted the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old great-grandmother from Tennessee, after she had served over 21 years in federal prison for a minor role in a drug trafficking and money laundering scheme — her first criminal offense.

Thanks to the author for keeping this abomination in front of the people’s eyes. People of color the victims as usual of vulture capitalism and repressive laws, like the War On Drugs (WOD) designed to abuse the most vulnerable.and enrich the well-connected.

The WOD was in part a mechanism of the Prison Industrial Complex (PIC)…a steady supply of 'perps" to fill and keep profits and power flowing to the police, corrupt racist court system, and for-profit prisons, incarcerating people for non-violent crimes.

Every scam needs fodder and “drugs” worked wonderfully in all respects…except for the victims. The fight to end the WOD and cannabis prohibition threatened to reduce those profits and a new class of “perp” was needed…just as after the demise of the Soviet Union, another boogie man was needed and, Viola! the War On Terror (WOT) made continued profits safe for the Military Industrial Congressional Complex…the war-machine!

Now the War on Refugees & Immigrants is front and center to assure profits for the PIC…Families ripped apart and children’s lives shattered by a policy of intolerance, racism and profits above all else…especially above any sense of morality! Again the well-connected shifted to “detention” to make their profits, with government “contracts” in the millions of dollars expanded to house the victms of trumps “zero tolerace” racism1 What we need is zero-tolerance for the trump regime and its War On People (WOP)! ENOUGH!
