If LBJ were alive, he might say, “The kids are still right.”
Don’t omit Pramila Jayapal, elected two years before The Squad, and thus the “elder stateswoman” of this insurgent class.
Let’s hope so! I think the people are 70% behind them and it will grow once the powerful elites who get huge amount of monies from corporate sponsor and banksters. Clinton days our gone and hopefully Obamas as he was such a HUGE disappointment.
To become a sustained force rather than a flash in the pan the squad needs to prioritize issues that matter to a wide cross section of voters, like expanding Medicare to more age groups, relieving the US Postal Service (USPS) of its 2006 extortion millstone, funding transportation and utility (including broadband) infrastructure improvements, and the like. They need to reframe issues like BLM (break it into specific harms like police accountability and judicial reform) and steer clear of the s word (the squad’s platform is more akin to mid-century centrists, not socialists). The s word may have high acceptance among young murkins but a century of brainwashing has many older murkins eternally fearful of the word, ad the squad needs support from all age groups to become sustainable.
