The Terrifying Implications of India’s Elections for People and the Planet

Basav Sen

In a sweeping victory, the far-right Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Narendra Modi has returned to power in India’s elections. It’s a profoundly disturbing development.

The most pressing concern about the BJP government is its systematic persecution of India’s minorities, particularly Muslims.

The Climate Crisis is caused by too many people in the planet and public impoverishment by oligarchy and hegemony.

The Climate Crisis will be resolved by reducing the world’s population through war, disease, famine, drought or planned parenting.

Oligarchy and hegemony can be resolved through blockchain secured online referendums that let all the people make the laws direct democratically (see liquid democracy).

So far no candidate has addressed overpopulation as a mayor problem, or direct democracy as the cure for dictatorship.

good point about overpopulation, India has about 1.33 billion people, almost doubling from about 690 million in 1980in less than 40 years. This is ignored by both left and right and almost all of the environmental movement.
Sadly, elections result in environmental losses not just in India and Brazil, but also in Australia, Ontario, Alberta, and of course the US in 2016. Environmental advocates have to face honestly what is going wrong.

Just wondering if anybody here knows if India uses electronic voting machines (that would explain a lot)?

India doesn’t have a great record of environmental protection, but several points of the article are misleading. Corporate companies cannot arbitrarily force land acquisition in fact the land acquisition bill is considered as one of the major stumbling blocks for development of new projects. There has been in an increase in rhetoric and nationalism but to draw conclusions that India is burning is both unfortunate and untrue. None of his social policies have excluded any community infact his vote share increased among dalits.India is a very densely populated country and illegal immigrants is athe last thing needed. All the so far secular parties have done since independence is to keep the minorities poor and used them as votebanks. For people who link him to Gujarat riots, India’s apex court cleared him and that was not when his party was in power in the centre. Indian poor cares more about what the deliverables to him are rather than what is the growth rate and foreign investment and this is an area where his party has been a success.

What does it explain?

Thanks for the link. I figured as much. (sigh)

War is a very stupid choice for reducing population or resolving any other problem. Not only is war cruel it actually exacerbates the over population problem based on all available historic evidence.
The correct solution is a fair distribution of wealth a social system that values public educaaaaaaaaation foremost.

Besides that’s the argument Bolton and Pompeo would use plus a whole host of warmonger neocon militarists. They would argue (as i have heard more than once said to me) that "we need to mow down the population) so these madmen have a role cut out for themselves to “mow down” earth’s people for a huge profit. And when it grows again which it will short of a nuclear calamity they would go at it using the same pathology.

“War is a very stupid choice for reducing population.”

For intelligent animals, it sure seems stupid. For lower animals, war is a common natural occurrence. It is competition taken to an unsustainable scale.

"Not only is war cruel it actually exacerbates the over population problem based on all available historic evidence. "

Nature is cruel beauty. It relies on tools like periodic wars to balance the population of all species. I don’t understand how it could exacerbate the overpopulation problems, but in nature war is cyclical, so it may seem that way.

“The correct solution is a fair distribution of wealth a social system that values public educaaaaaaaaation foremost.”

Conservatives and neoliberals have not evolved into intelligent animals yet so they won’t vote for a fair wealth distribution and good social system. They are led by greed heads who worship money and power instead of rational values.

Nature uses predators in the wild to cull a species in a similar way that it uses conservatives to cull our own “civilized” species. To stop the vicious cycle, an intelligent species would control our population humanely and share resources more equitably. But we’re not there yet…

Nature is nothing and everything, we are free to make conscious decisions either to turn the planet into hell as you suggest or heaven for everyone on board this space ship.

Fuck your predictors and your fucking wild, those are animals who know no better. That comparison is plane fucking idiotic barbarian Neanderthal mindset. Get over it pal
