The U.S. Oil and Gas Industry Is Drilling Us Towards Climate Disaster

Kelly Trout

As the 116th Congress commences, in the wake of dire reports from climate scientists, the debate over U.S. climate policies has taken a welcome turn towards bold solutions.

American “exceptionalism” is hell bent on partying like it’s 1999. In 2008 we heard “drill baby drill” from the shrill from Wascilla. Oh well, for a few decades more life will go on here in Fucktardia.

I knew it! You’re an optimist!

Can’t stand that American exceptionalism. Let’s see more Americans are obese than ever, basic wages are going down, costs of living is going through the roof, environment and overdevelopment are in deep trouble, money only for the fat cats etc. with their continuous wars so what is exceptional about that- except exceptionally dumb and corrupt?

Drilling doesn’t just happen, it’s driven by profit and cold-blooded capitalist companies. How about exercising the corporate death penalty against Exxon, Chevron, etc.? They are killing the planet and our children’s future. They’ve lied for decades to cover their crimes. They’re genocidal murderers committing megacrimes for their own short-term gain.

The US government should take over their assets and produce the minimum oil to keep the economy going while we transition to 100% renewable energy as rapidly as possible – a process that would be so much easier without the oil companies fighting us every step of the way.

Is there a better alternative? Keep drilling till there’s no tomorrow?

Yes, the CEOs and their minions need to get the death penalty but good luck to that!
