The UN Fails to Name and Shame Firms Aiding Israel’s Illegal Settlements

Jonathan Cook

The United Nations postponed last week for the third time the publication of a blacklist of Israeli and international firms that profit directly from Israel’s illegal settlements in the occupied territories.

The international body had come under enormous pressure to keep the database under wraps after lobbying behind the scenes from Israel, the United States and many of the 200-plus companies that were about to be named.

UN officials have suggested they may go public with the list in a few months.

I wonder if George Orwell understood in 1949 that his novel 1984 would be used as a major component of the Israeli propaganda machine.

As for Texas (10th largest economy in the world) kowtowing to Israel (32nd largest), way to strut your stuff. /s

Wake up Texans, the answers ain’t in your Bibles and thanks to your voting history they ain’t in your textbooks, either. True Texans would never vote for the filth that you send to Austin and Washington, DC.
–A proud, but disheartened, native Texan

When more and more US elected officials and other public figures, rather than showing contrition, seem to wear labels like racist, misogynist and homophobe as badges of honor, why do so many of us feel compelled to backpedal from a position of principle to avoid being labeled an “anti-Semite?” What still confers such power to a cheap-shot epithet?

I’d argue that being labeled a “child-murdering sociopath”—such as Netanyahu—is far worse, and should be a lifetime disqualifier for any position of power. Can we please get beyond labels and start to examine the real-world effects of policy on real people’s lives?

In his 2006 book, *Blood and Religion*, J. Cook’s unmasking of the Jewish, and not so

democratic state shows the decades long Israeli genocide against the Palestinians to be
a global tragedy. Because of the Jews, humanity has one God, and the Christians a messiah.
But because Israeli military and terrorist elite demand a sovereign nation-state of “Jews only,”
Israel, this people of God have made themselves, or their Zionist leadership have, a curse to
mankind.
Had Hitler’s Nazi genocide against Jews been a divine suffering learned, the Jewish people
would have accepted the Arab and Muslim people’s in a spirit of brotherhood; they would
have built an economy together, the envy of the world, and a society the shining example of
“a city upon a hill.”
But bad blood and idolatrous religion have crushed the kingdom of God under
the “boot’s heal” (Big Brother’s vision of humanity, in Nineteen Eighty-four).
