I spoke to Berta Cáceres the day she was murdered. I never imagined that later this year I would be in a demonstration along with almost a thousand women in Honduras asking for justice for her murder.
True leaders of the people are rare. The establishment finds it easier to snuff them out than to fight endless battles against them. Unfortunately, replacements for these precious people don't usually engender the same affection, dedication, leadership, etc.
Nonetheless Deysi Flores has shown that despite the tragic loss of Berta Cáceres, precisely that love and respect for her has manifested in the resolve of COPINH to continue the struggle with ever-increasing conviction.
Thank you Ms. Flores for your commitment and a very inspiring article.
