The War in Afghanistan Is Over, It's Time to Face the Truth

I heard more than I ever wanted to hear from #1.
I just wonder if the Taliban government is gonna go around shooting off AK’s day and night even though the evil Americans have left.

It’s a good question. I am reminded of an answer from Ezra Pound, of all people. This is from “Hugh Selwyn Mauberly,” written around WWI.

IV
These fought, in any case,
and some believing, pro domo, in any case …

Some quick to arm,
some for adventure,
some from fear of weakness,
some from fear of censure,
some for love of slaughter, in imagination,
learning later …

some in fear, learning love of slaughter;
Died some pro patria, non dulce non et decor” …

walked eye-deep in hell
believing in old men’s lies, then unbelieving
came home, home to a lie,
home to many deceits,
home to old lies and new infamy;

usury age-old and age-thick
and liars in public places.

Daring as never before, wastage as never before.
Young blood and high blood,
Fair cheeks, and fine bodies;

fortitude as never before

frankness as never before,
disillusions as never told in the old days,
hysterias, trench confessions,
laughter out of dead bellies.

V
There died a myriad,
And of the best, among them,
For an old bitch gone in the teeth,
For a botched civilization.

Charm, smiling at the good mouth,
Quick eyes gone under earth’s lid,

For two gross of broken statues,
For a few thousand battered books.

Facing the truth before might help.

So, for instance, where are the soldiers headed next? Who will the US kill and torture and rob next? What can be done about it now?

Oh I will donate to that! And not just their names but faces too.
Hey, aren’t the losers of a war often asked to pay reparations? The stock market is at record highs, surely the Exceptional Nation would want to make good its mistake with another Trillion or so? THAT would have the warmongers thinking twice!

What one will never see is a Vietnam Wall which lists all the victims of American aggression during that idiotic war and which would also include those people who were unjustifiably killed in Laos and Cambodia. It seems that those people who had been killed by U.S. planes in Laos and Cambodia are usually not mentioned when the American War on Vietnam is discussed. But they would probably run out of material for that wall since it would extend from the U.S. to China. And while the author’s article was well written she is definitely wrong to claim that the war in Afghanistan is over. That claim cannot be correct when the United States is still dropping 500 lb. bombs and drone missiles upon those unfortunate people while Special Forces and mercenaries are free to roam that country where they will wreak more havoc and misery upon the Afghan people.

I agree the war is over in name only. It will now go underground with drone strikes, special op raids, etc. Only so much you can cover in one short article - trying to bring awareness to the inhumanity of war.
Thanks for reading, appreciate your taking the time to post.

Your statement that you are attempting “to bring awareness to the inhumanity of war” is reminiscent of what the American artist and activist Lorraine Schneider said during the American War on Vietnam when she famously noted that:

“War is not healthy for children and other living things.”

100% agree! Nice reply…thanks.

Thanks, but we know that even if someone donated millions of $$$$ for a Vietnam war criminal wall it would never be built!

A question rarely asked, but never answered: what responsibility does the US soldier share in the prosecution of an illegal war? There are international laws, such as the UN Charter and the Nuremberg Principles that provide the answers, but it seems that they don’t apply to the US and its military! Remember that at the end of WWII we executed Japanese soldiers for the crime of waterboarding US P.O.W.s, but give honor to those in our military who waterboard prisoners at Quantanamo Bay!

Think Iran.
We have propositioned vehicles inside afghan for the 3rd inf div to use attacking Iran from the east or Pakistan from all over.
Pompeo setting up for 2026, with replacements already in place!

Don’t need a wall. A plaque will do. The names on it should be Johnson, Nixon, and Kissinger. Most everyone else was just doing their jobs that they were directed to do.

We need to be under heavy attack before ever firing a shot.
Don’t want no more stinking war.
If you know about prepositioning for a war with Iran I hope people who can address this know as well.
We are tapped out with republican bovine scatology. One or two more straws and we are in deep doo-doo.

The names should start with Eisenhower, the Dulles Brothers and Kennedy.

There is no real justice when Saddam gets hung but Bush walks.

Cheney changed that.
Biden will not attack anyone.
Pompeo seems to fit the current republican base.
He can probably win over independents for prez in 2024 election for prez better than the others. Governors and senators who want the power.
He will not hesitate to use army rather than diplomacy.

Our losses in afghan:
Pakistan army officers were in the fields guiding Taliban tactics there.
They also imported taliban from Pakistan to replace taliban killed.
If we killed 5,000, they replaced the 5,000 and added another 5000 against us.

Democrats do not yet have a presidential front runner for 2024.
I am praying that Joe completes his term.

The J6 house committee has the brakes on. Looks like over 20 republican house members are suspected. Wondering if Jordan will get revealed?

Why should my heart and mind be engaged in a war that I knew from day one was based on lies? The people who were alleged to have hi jacked the planes were Saudi Arabian and other nationalities. I don’t recall any Afghan nationals. Even then, if a group of insurgents not attached to a sovereign govt commit an act of aggression, why would you attack an entire country and it’s people? We sold and sell munitions to Pakistan. We are all kind of buddies with that country and they were hiding bin Ladin (If he was still alive) but we just tossed that off with a wink and a nod. I would not support any military action our country waged against another country because I’m not at all clear that we have ever aggressed against another country in clear defense of ourselves. We lie and attack—usually smaller, defenseless nations. War is never peace. War is death.
