'These Things Happen,' Says Defense Chief of Attack That Killed Iraqi Allies

Lauren McCauley, staff writer

A U.S. military attack that killed nearly a dozen Iraqi soldier allies was a "mistake," Defense Secretary Ash Carter admitted on Saturday.

"These kinds of things happen when you’re fighting side by side as we are," Carter told reporters of Friday's airstrike near Falluja, which killed an estimated 10 people.

But there were no US casualties, were there. Doesn't sound much like "side by side" to me.

#3

Offense Secretary Ash Carter remarked, with sincere gravity, that he was surprised there was anything left to bomb in the area; but those killed died with their boots on the ground.

#4

Carter said, "I hope Iraqis will understand that this is a reflection of things that happen in combat. But it's also a reflection of how closely we are working with the government" of Iraq.
Do you think Carter has any idea how bone-deep stupid that comment of his sounds ?

As Ashley went on to say chortiling, "Come-on, there are no mistakes".....As he sighs, just another day in the office...what's for dinner.

#6

I shouldn't think so, but he might have figured it out a millisecond too late.

#7

Initially , as is par for the course , the USA claimed that such an incident did not occur.

#8

The only way to prevent this from happening again. Is for the U.S. to leave Iraq. And that's exactly what the Iraq government has requested.

#10

Pechorin, or, it could be the Iraqi government is in it for the correct reasons -- to stop the terrorism.

#11

Now that is some damn fine double-speak!

We bombed them BECAUSE we work with them so closely! Death is love.

#12

Well, if it did occur, surely it would be classified information! I'm sure when they told us it didn't happen, they were giving us the least dishonest version of the facts that we could handle.

" A U.S. military attack that killed nearly a dozen Iraqi soldier allies was a "mistake" Secretary Ash Carter admitted on Saturday."

NO Ash! The mistake was done in 2003 when Iraq was attacked for economic reasons and even Hilliary Rotten Clinton has admitted her vote to attack Iraq was a " MISTAKE" .

#15

"'These kinds of things happen when you’re fighting side by side as we are,' Carter' said." This is unfortunately inaccurate. Let me fix it for you, Ash (such an appropriate and accurate name, though)
'"These kinds of things happen to them when we’re fighting. . .," Carter
