As always, Medea Benjamin is on the scene doing the heavy lifting w her colleagues. It does seem that the UN is the only recourse–but it too often lacks courage to vigorously decry the hidden machinations of empire. The Benjamins of trade, international banking, as well as the threat of future subversion for falling away from orthodoxy are complicit in that sad failure.

From Che’s first communique from Bolivia:

The military brutes who have usurped power, after killing workers and laying the groundwork for the total handover of our resources to US imperialism, are now mocking the people with a comic farce. Even as the hour of truth arrived and the masses took up arms, responding to the armed usurpers with armed struggle, they tried to continue with their lies.

After a coup comes a purge.
Supporting a coup supports a purge.

  CODE PINK is a voice in the wilderness, and from there comes

JFK and the Unspeakable: Why he died and why it matters,
by J.W.Douglass.
As the CIA orchestrates assassinations, massive
protests for regime change or “neutralizing” government leaders that
threaten U.S. corporate state rule, and Bolivia is the current example;
as long as the Democratic Party resists Bernie for 2020 and he’s
elected in spite of their betrayal; could what’s happening to Evo Morales
happen to him? Or no, it couldn’t happen here.
This is the perfect CD post for this day and the time to hear that voice.
Thanks Medea.

Where are all the members of congress and all the MSM screaming that the coup leaders are killing their own people? Is it ok to kill your own people when we agree with the government (even an illegitimate government)? Anyhow, why is it worse to kill your own people than someone else’s people?

Hi youvbintook;
Jeanin Anez, the woman who took over the presidency , by her word alone, was screaming that the indigenous people worship Satan. Hmmm, by her murderous actions, it looks like Satan is her guy! : (

America, once more exports our national and best selling product—war---- to those corporations who will kill nations for their oil, but Bolivia has the resource that all the new inventions need, lithium. : (

Is there any previous example of the UN intervening in the wake of a Monroe Doctrine coup, or any US-endorsed coup, for that matter? I don’t think so – which is just one of the reasons I regard the UN as just another tentacle of Empire.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Bachelet to do anything, Medea. The oppressed are on their own on this one, with no help from the oppressors, only from singularly courageous reporters such as yourself. Keep your head down, dear Medea. Please take care.

What a powerful article. Security forces engaging with voters and citizens with any type of violence, let alone live firearms is absolutely deplorable and probably very, very unnecessary in 99% of scenarios. May any amount of improvements in social equity and peace in Bolivia increase by spreading awareness like this piece of journalism.

I’ve watched Bolivians successfully blockade their roads with boulders during peaceful strikes. They need to shut the whole country down until no capital flows and their rightful president, Evo Morales, is restored to Power to the People of Bolivia with a big fuck off to the U$A!

Oh, and another thing, the families of those goons in green need to be shamed out of their neighborhoods. Such bravery–attacking those shouldering their fallen family and friends. I wonder how many bolivianos it to to pay the bastards off.

The UN isn’t an evil monster; it can only act with support or acquiesence of its members, especially those on the Security Council. And you might have noticed that one of those SC members is a big bully that bribes and threatens many countries.

The organization that is a monster – tool of the same bully, in fact – is the OAS. And you’re right about Bachelet: acting under OAS auspices she did a hatchet job on Venezuela last summer. She’s a disgrace to her parents and even her own history as victims of Pinochet.

When the UN intervened on behalf of France and the US in Haiti – blue-helmeted peacekeepers (“smurfs”) sent for the first time to keep peace in the absence of a conflict, and bringing cholera with them to boot – some of us got a clue that the UN is now just a tentacle of Empire.

Haiti’s great slave revolt, a couple of centuries ago, is still being crushed today. With the UN’s generous, predatory assistance.

Thanks E. We need to see this winnowing of the

‘and insisted on the supremacy of Christianity and the Bible over indigenous[ traditions that the self-declared president, Jeanine Añez, has characterized as “satanic.”]’

Fun fact - Satan belongs to the Christian pantheon of deities, not to any indigenous traditions…

The UN is “owned” by the US Empire and it’s lackeys. The US Empire and its vassals will never be held to account by UN.

Does Exxon-Mobil and Guyana oil discoveries have anything to do with these attempted coups across the continent?

It seems that there is some form of strategic micro-management to prevent any “left-wing government” from affecting Exxon-Mobil in the Guyana basin.

It’s just too co-incidental that Exxon-Mobil is suddenly discovering these multi-billion barrel oil discoveries in the Guianas.
