"This Race Is Not Over": With Narrow Margin Amid GOP's Dirty Tricks, Stacey Abrams Refuses to Concede in Georgia

Jessica Corbett, staff writer

With all precincts reporting in Georgia after weeks of voter suppression efforts and emerging revelations about issues at polling stations throughout the state on Election Dah, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams on Wednesday is holding out hope for a runoff as she trails Republican Secretary of State Brian Kemp—accused of abusing "the official powers of his office to interfere in the election to benefit himself and his party"—by an increasingly small margin.

Good candidate!

With the closeness of the race, there should be a recount anyway – right?

And especially an investigation as to just how many voters Kemp purged from the registered lists.

Thank you Stacey Abrams and the people of Georgia who are clear about the necessity to uphold civil clarity, transparency, THE LAW and our capacity to grow and evolve. Millions have been inspired by these midterms. They in turn will be talking with other people who have been convinced by the corrupt sectors in the system that disenfranchisement is their lot.

This is the good fight and its well worth learning from this go-round to refine the next for reforms and advances in civil well being in this country.

Good work. If only Andrew Gillum had the same courage.

…Voting for ReThugliCons is just f-ing stupid because they’re thieves. I’m tired of living in a world full of thieves. The ‘Authoritarians’ in the world have ‘taught’ us to ‘take’ rather than ‘negotiate’ and when we are desperate and low on funds we tend to take. Also rich folks (those authoritarians) steal our resources, even generationally with being able to pass large amounts of money with not much tax being procured. Rich folks think they need to hoard, that’s a disease as far as I can tell. If you are poor, you collect news papers and tins, if you are rich you collect more money whether you need it or not. It’s the same ailment and needs to be treated…sometimes in a ‘radical’ fashion…I have rope and duct tape…

I’m eighty years old and Stacey Abrams is one of the most impressive politicians, human beings, If Georgia since Jack Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy. If Georgia lets her slip by they will have lost the opportunity of this century.

This is an important point to consider. All of Southwest Georgia was severely impacted by Hurricane Michael. It will take many months to get things functioning normally there. Most of the counties there are very rural. Most of them have a very high percentage of African-American citizens. Besides Dougherty County, in which is Albany, the largest city in Southwest Georgia, other counties affected by Hurricane Michael include: Seminole, Decatur, Early, Miller, Baker, Grady, Thomas, Mitchell, Colquitt, Worth, Calhoun, Randolph,
Lee, Sumter, Crisp, and Ben Hill counties. All of these suffered moderate to severe damage.
