Politics is a lot like gambling. So many words are given to the People—but so few politicians are sincere. We need another Roosevelt—someone who can inspire with real words and real programs. It might be Biden, but he is not a sure bet, nor has he ever been one. The last hope is that his grandkids would be who he is working for—and all the others who have yet to reach adult hood… Roosevelt did it—cross your fingers that Biden can too.
“To be like FDR, Joe Biden must strengthen labor” — I would say that “To be like FDR, Joe Biden must be nothing like the person he in fact is.”
OBiden is no FDR.
Labor, worker unions provided apprentice training, health care, the 40 hour work week.
Paid vacation, dental insurance began in the late 1960’s in Rochester, NY.
Railroad worker unions.
Steel workers
Teamsters
Post Office
Teachers
Carpenters
Electricians
Plumbers
Factories and shops.
Protecting seniority and security for the senior employees.
I think the workers everywhere have the inherent right to organize and form a union. The business owners, managers and HR do need to provide safe working conditions. Do not expect federal or state OSHA to be able to do this.
It’s funny how some of these articles can be loaded with misconceptions that are not directly stated.
Biden wants to please his corporate funders, not get mistaken for FDR. There are very nearly no defenders of labor left in American office. The legacy of FDR lies with a few independents and third party people, and that is not because FDR was radical, by any means.
Here are better predictors of policy:
To be like Agusto Pinochet, Joe Biden must __________.
To be like George W Bush, Joe Biden must __________.
To be like Czar Nicholas II, Joe Biden Must __________.
If being like FDR means launching a giant war to take over the world, you can count me out. We have many home crises. The battles that the US must invest in are climate change, better education, disease control, and peaceful and harmonious foreign relations.
Unions must end their protection money payments to government. Unions will better protect their labor by buying companies. Labor owning and controlling the capital directly. No millionaire suit in DC getting a cut. Then betraying labor later.
