For more than 150 years, the people of Pennsylvania have had to tolerate having sent the worst, bottom-of-the-barrel president, James Buchanan, to Washington. If they help in making Trump a one term president, they’ll be able to pass the title to New York.

Speaking as a fellow Pennsylvanian, PA has long tradition of electing awful people to statewide office. In my lifetime alone our fellow citizens have elected people like Pat Toomey, the pretend democrat Bob Casey Jr, Rick (insert joke here) Santorum, Arlin Spector, Tom Ridge, Dick Thornburg, and perhaps our most corrupt governor of yesteryear, Milton Shapp. We’re the state that brought you ABSCAM. And on a personal note out here in western PA, more sleazy congressmen than you can shake a stick at, particularly John Murtha (of the aforementioned ABSCAM sting) and our two Murphy’s, most recently Tim, and many years back Austin (a man who was found to have two families, one here in Pa, one in northern Virginia) he of course was re elected.

I moved from the hometown of Ray Shafer to the hometown of Trey Gowdy. I’m a glutton for political punishment.

I wish some creative entrepreneur would create a website in which we could buy thank-you gifts or gift cards or in some other way say thanks to the few courageous officials, judges, and others who have stood up to the Fuhrer.
As the Resistance found out in Nazi Germany, when you go against the Fuhrer, you risk your life.
I especially would like to reward Governor Whitmer, one of the most courageous women in America, for standing up to Fuhrer even though he openly solicits violent actions against her by praising white supremacist militias who sought to kidnap and murder her, and continuing to constantly slag her at his Nazi rallies.

Oh, you’re used to this sort of stuff then?

Trump isn’t interested in democracy he is interested in winning.

Ellen Weintraub, an official at the U.S. Federal Election Commission, is certainly correct when she notes that "“counting ballots—all of 'em—is the appropriate, proper, and very legal way to determine who won.” But the people whose views are most germane on this issue are the conservative judges on the Supreme Court. Unless they undergo a massive change of heart on November 3 then there is a very good chance that Trump remains in office for four [eight, twelve?] more years. Rational thinking did not occur in 2000 when vote counting was discontinued in Florida by the Supreme Court during the hotly contested presidential race between Bush and Gore. The huge question is whether history will basically repeat itself in 2020. Progressives better hope that Biden wins in a landslide because if Biden manages to win by only a few percentage points then one can rest assured that Trump and his minions will do everything they can, by hook or by crook, to make sure that Trump stays in power.

“If you can’t be a good example, then you’ll have to be a horrible warning.”-attributed to Catherine the Great, Russian empress [1729-1796]

I recently reviewed the film about that so-called sting, and it made absolutely no sense to me. One of those “I used to like this!” moments of confusion. I know from my time on planet Earth that things don’t work that way down here – so I guess the interesting issue with the mythologization of ABSCAM would be how far it wanders from anything resembling verifiable truth, and why.

The other thing really annoying about that film was its fetid misogyny. I never saw such a woman-hating piece of garbage. As if history is mainly driven by horrible women like Empress Josephine.

The same thing happened to me with The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, which really was one of my favorite old spaghetti western classic – it just looks like violence-porn to me now. (As does Parasite – our society so honors films where humans are revealed to be garbage.)

Meanwhile the US Ambassador to the UN is demanding that Syria change its Constitution and accuses its Government of rigging upcoming elections so as to ensure that those voted to power will design a Constitution that assures Assad stay in power.

These guys cant even run an election in “the greatest democracy in the world” without allegations of massive voter fraud wherein the President appoints peoples to the Supreme court so as to help he gets a victory , and they out there slamming other nations for corruption.

Then it would make a lot of sense to actually vote for Biden our beloved, newest, LOTE.

In an Age of Hyper-Nihilism, the argument “USA! USA! USA! USA!” is just as effective as the old arguments for human rights and world peace. Indeed, if rumpface gave a “Peace Speech” at American University, it would consist purely of smirking and sneering and chants of “USA! USA! USA! USA!” from a mob of obese nihilists.

Indeed. The Court can make up whatever bullshit argument it needs, to authorize whatever tyrannical objective it wants to authorize, on behalf of a new global fascist order.

Nothing is off the table for this Court. Nothing is beyond the pale. It will nakedly pursue the right wing corporatist agenda, without regard for precedent or Constitution or civil rights. It’s lights out in the USA, folks. If the Court wants to, it will simply declare the two-term presidential limit to be “unconstitutional.” This will be a twofer for them, because in the course of declaring rumpface Emperor For Life they’ll drag a few dozen sacrosanct principles of Western common law through the sewer.

Having shipped most of our manufacturing jobs overseas, one of the only things we are still good at manufacturing is consent. Our greatest export now is hypocrisy.

And our second-greatest export? Bombs for peace.

The quote below is often attributed to Joseph Stalin, albeit researchers have established it probably did not come from him. Nonetheless, it still reflects the authoritarian mindsets of Stalin, Trump, and all other narcissistic dictatorial types throughout history.

“It is not the people who vote that counts. It is the people who count the votes.”

Tragically, even our own Supreme Court puts the power in the hands of the right-wing hacks who “count the votes,” not “those who vote.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if the networks would agree to NOT make projects and instead wait until the final tabulation? I know, I know. It will never happen. I’m just wishing out loud.

The article in Slate about Kavanaugh’s false hood riddle opinion is a the most important part of the article.

I’d like to see someone in government have the guts (not Nancy Piluted obviously) to try to apply to Mr Kavanaugh, " [18 U.S.C. § 1001] which makes it a crime to “knowingly and willfully . . . make any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation” in the course of “any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch” of the federal government. There’s no requirement that the statement be under oath."

If the Dems take back the Senate he should be impeached as well as Amy Barrett, as I am sure she can be found to have made some misrepresentations in her confirmation hearings. The latter would be under the perjury laws.

I am, realistically, not going to hold my breath.

Supreme Court judges can be removed by impeachment. For a lack of true disinterest and objectivity, and upholding federal law, I nominate Brett Kavanaugh for the 1st impeachment hearing.
