 TPP Prioritizes ‘Rights’ of Corporations Over Workers, the Environment and Democracy

The way to begin any discussion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership is with a simple question:

Where does this sweeping global trade deal rest power—with the people and their elected representatives in the United States and eleven other Pacific-rim countries, or with the multinational corporations that have been empowered by every previous trade deal of this kind?

Well, that sounds really good, doesn't it? Good for "corporate persons," that is. Not so good for us old-fashioned, "human"-type persons, though.

You've got to give those "corporate persons" credit for one thing: They keep coming. They don't appear to be inclined to stop until they've taken every vestige of our wealth, our health, our power, and our liberty. They keep coming, like a metastasizing cancer. And the really remarkable thing about them is: They don't die.

More than almost anything else, I am ready for the day when a corporation can die...
