TPP vs. Democracy: Leaked Draft of Secretive Trade Deal Spells Out Plan for Corporate Power Grab

Predatory capitalism is like a plumber going in under your home and welding an elbow connection between the septic pipe to the water intake.
GDP has fully absorbed the production rationale of planned obsolescence for it vaunted perpetual growth, which has given us the hockey stick graph of pollutants, ironically a closed circle that claws for deregulation for its ways and means to grow.
It is so sick that it can neither see that it is sick, nor stop being sick. In the internalized growth mandate the intensification of these is celebrated as power, while being devoid of strength.

Is this the new world order that neoliberalism has been pushing since Reagan/Bush1?

#5

Yes, fakefrench, Obama is selling us out to secure the Obama family a first class compartment on the same gravy train that the Clinton family has ridden since Bill moved out of the white house.

Bill has enjoyed an eight figure annual "corporate speaking fee" income ($17 million in 2013 alone) for zealously promoting NAFTA, FCC deregulation, commodities trading deregulation, kiling Glass-Steagall, and other actions that have given the 1% trillions in new revenue and corporate welfare, all at the expense of the 99%. In addition to the "speaking fee" income, the Clintons get generous corporate donations to their foundation.

Thank-you Wikileaks; thank-you Mr. Assange.

This is the sort of groundbreaking leak-news that you won't see on Billionaire Omydiar's "The Intercept".

Oh good.

'Cause asbestos is fireproof AND a good insulator. 'Bout time they got rid of those pesky, profit killing regulations banning it.

#8

This makes obvious why TPP has been kept secret from Congress as well. What country in its right mind would cede all of its leverage and power to some CEOs of foreign corporations?

#10

Why are people so hung up on " jobs"? What good will be a job for a roundup sprayer, or a GMO farm equipment operator, or a deadly chemicals factory worker? Those are jobs these corporations create, low paying slave jobs we can and must do without. Just imagine how many well paying jobs would be created when we breakup monopoly capitalist corporations like wall mart, home depot? Instead of one life destroying wall mart store, suddenly there will be opportunities for local small businesses paying real wages and benefiting local communities instead of building more jails and hiring more police.

#11

A related point that is so troubling is that of the media marketed to liberals which, while remaining critical of the TPP, have also been promoting Hillary Clinton to challenge VP Joe Biden for the 2016 nomination. Clinton, of course, worked to promote the TPP up until launching her campaign-maybe.

#12

Because we have no viable options. The US has spent decades creating the mess in we're in, via policies supported or accepted by the middle class.

#13

What country? A fascist controlled hubristic oligarchy with nukes. If there ever was a reason for armed rebellion, this is it.

#14

In the 1980s, middle class America went "all out" in support of Reagan's deregulation mania. Democrats applaud Bill Clinton, who gave us NAFTA. The media marketed to libs are busy marketing Hillary Clinton, who put a lot of work into promoting the TPP. Note that when Reagan was first elected, the overall quality of life in the US was rated at #1. By the time Obama was elected, this had already plunged to #43, as a result of the economic policies chosen/accepted by the middle class.

#15

If America had a revolution, who would fight whom? What the rich are now doing to the middle class is what the middle class already did to the poor.

#16

Well, if we're to believe the media marketed to libs (MSNBC, etc.), people must be OK with the TPP, since they've been working to promote her in place of VP Biden. That said, what 99%? We're deeply divided by class, middle class vs. the poor.

#17

Voluntary psychopath. I.e., he exploits the rest of us without hesitation or remorse because he can do it with impunity and it pays off for him.

#18

This so called liberal is not voting for Hillary under any circumstances. I plan a write in for Bernie Sanders if she runs.

#19

Obama is exactly what he said he was -- a pragmatist. I do understand that many are angry that he failed to deliver rainbows and unicorns, but he was stuck with the reality that was sitting on the desk when he took office. America no longer has the option of quitting wars when people grow tired of them. The US has, since WWll, earned the hate of much of the world. If you want examples of psychopathy, look into middle class attitudes about our poverty crisis, and about our poor.

#20

The 2016 Dem Party candidate will actually be VP Joe Biden. With very rare exception, this is how our system works. Any Dem pol can challenge him for the nomination, of course, splitting Dem voters to ensure a 2016 defeat.

I would urge people to try to figure out what the want. For years, much of our media merely maintained a pep rally for the better off, those still in the middle class. Elections since Gore vs. Bush shows why this is a losing strategy.

#21

In California you can't do a write in in the general election. Top two only. Ugh.

#22

fake_french: Exactly. What is he?
