Trump Attacks Western Civilization Itself

Trump Attacks Western Civilization Itself

Robert Freeman

Donald Trump’s stonewalling of Congress is not simply a political dodge to avoid accountability. It is an attack on western civilization itself. A reading of the deep history of constitutionalism shows why.

The western institution of constitutionalism began with the Magna Carta, signed in 1215 A.D. King John had tried to force new taxes on his people, but had not obtained the consent of the English Barons. They wrote a list of 61 rights that they demanded he honor if he wished to retain their loyalty. He signed it.

Excellent article. Food for thought for 2020 when there’s a chance to make a difference. Of course, Republicans have something to say about that:

Trump thinks he can lose the 2020 election and still maintain control via Secret Service protection, etc. He can’t because the tolerance that the apparatus shows him is due to individuals’ fealty to the Constitution. Should he be defiant as so many believe he would, I hope the frog march is televised. And the trial. And the hanging.

History shows that for every example of a constitutional body holding a tyrant in check, there’s no shortage of examples of a constitutional body failing to do so. Anyone care to guess the odds of the Democrats holding Trump and his Republican boot lickers to constitutional law?

The American Revolution was as much a Counter Revolution. The Courts and Parliments in the United Kingdom had not only ruled that a Slave escaping his owner could not be forcibly returned to the same under the law, but had also decided that the Ohio Territories and lands west of the 13 Colonies would not be open to further Colonization and the First Nations peoples there would be treated as Nation States instead . This was not by dictate of King George. This was by a ruling by Lord Somerset in a Court trial and by a bill passed in Parliament called The Quebec Act.

The 1 percent in the Colonies merely cited the Bill of Rights of 1628 in their own declarations so as to cement their own privilege. They simply removed the authority of the Church and of the Crown and invested all of that power in the 1 percent. There no checks and blances when the executive, the legislative and the Judiciary all act in the interests of the people with all the money. This allowed them to keep their slaves for another 100 years and seize all of the lands from the First nations peoples west to the Mississippi.

While Trump a Pompous ass, Western “Civilization” is not all it cracked up to be.

Monied interests exerting inordinate control over the entire system is the common thread.

If anything, the advent of the corporation tilted the playing field even more toward their advantage.

We’re at the end of a cycle. Trump is a symptom, not a cause. The structures of Western civilization have been undergoing dissolution for centuries. The foundations of Western civilization were metaphysical ideas that are no longer believed in or honored by its own elites. Do you think old King John would recognize modern America as part of his civilization? What we have now is an inverted, counterfeit civilization that has had its roots pulled out and its soul removed. You can’t save such a zombie civilization by appealing to ideals it no longer believes in. But none of this was Trump’s doing. He’s just a crazy guy who understands the nihilistic times we are living in and the degraded people he presides over better than the old elites did, and handed their asses to them. He’s a perfect president for this late Kali Yuga.

Western… CIVILIZATION???

(Now, that is a knee-slapper!)

Trump is now responsible, apparently, for everything from our thoroughly corrupted election systems to global warming to the common cold!

But there is such a thing as history – yes, even in what Gore Vidal famously called “The United States of Amnesia.” And our history provides ample evidence that this country hasn’t been “civilized” since its citizens let the deep state get away with murdering President John F. Kennedy for trying to end the Cold War and U.S. imperialism.

AT PERIL OF OUR SOULS, WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET THAT BILL CLINTON KILLED “WELL OVER A MILLION” IRAQI CIVILIANS… (See excerpt from The Guardian article below.)

(…before GEORGE W. BUSH killed several hundred thousand more – probably well over a million, too – at least that’s the claim made in a peer-reviewed study which appeared in the respected British medical journal, The Lancet… and that genocidal episode preceded President Obama’s flooding of a stable Syria, basically at peace, with al Qaeda, leading to a conflict that killed some half-a-million Syrians and created 10 million refugees… and that conflict only got going after Assad had met with Syria’s indigenous and peaceful resistance and granted them several concessions, including a multi-party system and term limits for any president.)

BUT FORGET WE WILL.

IT’S WHAT AMERICANS DO BEST.

…WHEN NOT BONING UP ON OUR HYPOCRISY AND FINGER-POINTING AT FOREIGN LEADERS, IN THE INTERESTS OF MORE AND LARGER WARS.

(IF ONLY WE COULD WORK UP A LITTLE INDIGNATION ABOUT OUR OWN WAR CRIMINALS AND CALL FOR A MODICUM OF “JUSTICE,” HERE AT HOME, EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE – MAYBE WE WOULDN’T HAVE TO GIVE SO MUCH MONEY TO RAYTHEON, LOCKHEED-MARTIN, BOEING, GENERAL DYNAMICS, NORTHROP GRUMMAN, AND ERIK PRINCE & THE PRIVATEERS… SO’S THEY CAN GO OUT INTO THE WORLD AND SEEK “JUSTICE” FOR THE POOR, ARAB/MUSLIM PEOPLE IN THE UNDEVELOPED PLACES – THE MILLIONS OF DEMOCRACY-DEPRIVED UNFORTUNATES WHO ARE SO IN NEED OF OUR MILITARY TO DEFEND THEM!)

You may now resume your blather about Donald Trump… and the “dictator” Maduro and “eeeeevil” Vladimir Putin and the still unproven allegations that Assad “gassed his own people” (claims that are always taken at face value by the corporate media and never challenged – except by multiple-award winning journalists like Robert Fisk, at least one U.N. weapons inspector upon her visit to Syria, the former British ambassador to Syria, and a handful of respected journalists who’ve spent time in the country…).

FROM THE GUARDIAN’S ARTICLE (from the year 2000 – ancient history, I realize, back when the Western media practiced journalism; nothing to be concerned about in 2019, now that America is “GREAT AGAIN,” and perfectly qualified to judge/jury/execute the rest of the world, according to Republicans and Democrats, alike!):

"A courtly, eloquent Irishman, Denis Halliday resigned as co-ordinator of humanitarian relief to Iraq in 1998, after 34 years with the UN; he was then Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, one of the elite of senior officials. He had made his career in development, ‘attempting to help people, not harm them’. His was the first public expression of an unprecedented rebellion within the UN bureaucracy. ‘I am resigning,’ he wrote, ‘because the policy of economic sanctions is totally bankrupt. We are in the process of destroying an entire society. It is as simple and terrifying as that . . . Five thousand children are dying every month . . . I don’t want to administer a programme that results in figures like these.’

“When I first met Halliday, I was struck by the care with which he chose uncompromising words. ‘I had been instructed,’ he said, ‘to implement a policy that satisfies the definition of genocide: a deliberate policy that has effectively killed well over a million individuals, children and adults. We all know that the regime, Saddam Hussein, is not paying the price for economic sanctions; on the contrary, he has been strengthened by them. It is the little people who are losing their children or their parents for lack of untreated water. What is clear is that the Security Council is now out of control, for its actions here undermine its own Charter, and the Declaration of Human Rights and the Geneva Convention. History will slaughter those responsible.’”

[It sure is a good thing that there is no such thing as “History,” here in the Land of the Free… A wholesome place where our government is openly, and without fear of repercussion, assisting Saudi Arabia’s genocidal campaign in Yemen, as I type these words. But again, don’t let me distract you from important, state-sanctioned diatribes. Official America has enemies – or targets, anyway. You may resume… “Maduro, Maduro, Maduro… Putin, Putin, Putin… Assad, Iranians, Hezbollah…” Go get 'em, Team Genocide! That’ll show Donald Trump!]

There were at least SOME investigational journalists. Bernstein, Woodward, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen.

A good history lesson on the origins of the constitution Bob;
but remember when Hitler, in 1938, signed the Munich Accords
for peace; saying afterward: “it’s just a piece of paper.”

Excellent post. Thank you for remembering Halliday, a true man of integrity!
