There is a glut of oil right now and the U.S. goal here is to stop Venezuela from oil production, raising the price for Saudi, British, French & U.S. based companies. The same is true for Venezuelan natural gas and gold, most likely. This also messes with China and other importers of these commodities. Thus, putting these economies ( leverage ) over the proverbial barrel.
Unfortunately, the Obama Adm. & The Clintonistas would pursue the same strategy, possibly without such a clumsy, heavy-handed approach. But the desired results allow for no final variations on the general theme.
The little solace that can be taken from this potential foreign escapade and policy blunder is this fact: a generation of young Venezuelans have been shown a different path forward under Chavez & Maduro. They have seen successes and failures, like all who live long enough inevitably do. A U. S. coup, however, with military intervention, would be like making Catholic Bishops and Cardinals, convicted of being serial sex criminals and cover-up conmen, saints.
Oh wait…er, ah…let me rephrase that analogy because I think the Catholic Church has actually done that. It would be like…
" Is this a great country, or what? "

Maduro may have to crack down, though there are obvious disadvantages to any such action.

“I am officially recognizing the president of the United States of America Bernie Sanders. “In its role as the only legitimate government duly elected by the American people, we the people invoked the country’s constitution to declare Donald Trump illegitimate and the office of the presidency therefore vacant.”

“The people of the United States of America have courageously spoken out against Trump and his regime and demanded freedom and the rule of law” .

“We encourage other Western hemisphere governments to recognize Bernie Sanders as the interim President of the United States, and we will work constructively with them in support of his efforts to restore constitutional legitimacy,” . “We continue to hold the illegitimate Trump regime directly responsible for any threats it may pose to the safety of the American people.”

“We repeat our call to the US military and security forces to support democracy and protect all US citizens”.

“The United States supports President Sanders as he establishes a transitional government, and leads the US, as the country prepares for free and fair elections. We urge all Americans to support peacefully this democratic process, as granted in the 1787 Constitution.”

The move to recognize Bernie as the interim president of the United States coincided with a day of demonstrations which were organized by the oligarchy.

It followed a message from oligarchy Vice President Mike Pence to the fascists of America, where he proclaimed, “As the privileged people of the US, make your voices heard tomorrow, on behalf of the oligarchy, we say: Heil Trump. We are with you. We stand with you, and we will stay with you until fascism is proclaimed and you reclaim your birthright of privilege.”

The best course for Maduro is to sit tight, neither cracking down or cracking up.
The military is still with Maduro, with a few exceptions. The opposition are elites, clergy and Chamber of Commerce types. They won’t want to get their soft hands too dirty, here.
The so-called left U.S. opinion leaders are pretty much silent, so if a coup takes place and it turns out badly, the claim of guilt by association with Trump policy will be accurate. Pretty strange bedfellows on this one.
Obamabots are such phonies. Killing people is OK: it’s the equivalent of shooting someone in the legs with a shotgun then telling them if they can crawl to the street and wave down an ambulance, they’ll get great medical care at the end of the ride. More happy horseshit, imo.

Thanks, Kevin.

I shared this on Facebook. I hope some of my cultural liberal friends will read it and think about it.

Maduro should immediately begin negotiations with interim-president Nancy Pelosi on how best to diffuse the situation and ensure the safe return of our illegal state department employees now in Venezuela. All American troops and citizens should ignore all edicts, commands and tweets from the criminal former president Trump and once and for all rid ourselves of the criminal enterprise we have been subject to for the past two years.

Trump, Pence, and Pompeo, it’s a trifecta, suicide by stupidity. Lets see some indictments please.

Several reports indicate that the Trump administration wants Maduro to aggressively crackdown on the opposition. They coordinated with the opposition to recognize Juan Guaido as “interim president” so it would provoke Maduro to take actions that would justify even further escalation. So far he’s held back, and he’s even delaying enforcement of an order that instructed US diplomats to evacuate. These are officials meddling against his government and stirring up chaos.

So many Americans believe in electing our own leaders as long as they are Democrats or Republicans but they believe we should pick leaders of 3rd World Nations so they have governments friendly to the US even if they are authoritarian. The US only discusses human rights with nations that are not its friends.
