Trump DOJ's Latest Move Confirms "Worst Fears" About Voting Rights

Jessica Corbett, staff writer

Legal experts and voting rights advocates are raising alarms about a reversal in the Justice Department's long-standing interpretation of a federal law that dictates when and how states can purge voters from their rolls.

States that plan to purge voter rolls should be forewarned that justice denied to anyones right to vote will only backfire. Imagine if people denied the right to vote packed together in lines outside polling places forcing major slowdowns or standstills in voting activity. Imagine the country’s reaction of watching police pulling and beating people to remove them from the lines, trying to clear the congestion. Somehow we already know who they would pick to remove.

In this administration we see a collision of immoral power with powerless morality that constitutes the major crisis we are facing today

Greg Palast, the investigative reporter who was on the seen in FL for the 2000 stolen election, says that 93 million voting records have already been sent to Kansas Scty of State and from there to be run through cross check. A couple of weeks ago he met with Bernie and Jessie Jackson and they said that they are going to take up the issue. There are some videos on his web page

I called Thom Hartmann’s show and asked why the democratic party has not taken up this crime. He said that he has been trying every way he knows to get them to move on it since 2000.

Ari Berman has been visible in recent months in this crime against democracy. Will the democratic party finally stand up? How can one be against election integrity?

Here is Ari’s article in Mother Jones yesterday

Trump Administration on the Right to Vote: Use It or Lose It The Justice Department backed Ohio’s effort to purge voters who sat out a few elections.

Ohio has purged 2 million voters from 2011 to 2016, more than any other state, including 1.2 million for infrequent voting. At least 144,000 voters in Ohio’s three largest counties, home to Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati, were purged since the 2012 election, with voters in Democratic-leaning neighborhoods twice as likely to be removed as those in Republican-leaning ones, according to a Reuters analysis.

These purges can have a big impact in a close election. During the 2000 election, Florida wrongly labeled 12,000 registered voters as ex-felons and scrubbed them from the voter rolls—a number that was 22 times George W. Bush’s ultimate 537-vote margin of victory. In 2004, the Ohio Republican Party sent a mailing to 232,000 newly registered voters, urging them to vote Republican. When 35,000 mailers were returned as undeliverable, the GOP tried to purge those voters from the rolls. The Democratic National Committee sued its Republican counterpart, and a federal court blocked the purge, ruling that voters “faced irreparable injury” to their “constitutional right to vote.”

The DOJ hasn’t “lost its moral compass” …
It’s been replaced with a new immoral compass.

Neither is there any threat to officials that protesters may come out “into the streets”
or appeal to “courts” which have also been given a new immoral compass –
nor the threat at the “ballot box” which is also meaningless since our right to vote has
been taken from us by simply corrupting the means and methods.

It has never been too early to speak about fascism crossing the threshold in the US,
or anywhere else. It isn’t something which suddenly appears as an invention of a few,
it is something which exists in the character of a few among every people everywhere.
And it is the desire to hold control over others for the benefit of the taker - even if by
violence. And it is most dangerous when the those with similar mindsets come together.

When was the last time that we thought that our country was moving in the right
direction – i.e., that our “moral compass” was set correctly?

Don –

A couple of weeks ago he met with Bernie and Jessie Jackson and they said that they are going to take up the issue.

Sadly, it seems quite clear now that Jessie Jackson was involved in the assassination
of Martin Luther King, Jr. as a co-conspirator.

It was, of course, Greg Palast who let Americans know what had happened in 2000 and how purges
were used to steal the election by purging liberals from the rolls.

But for more than 50 years, our nation has been voting on hack-able computers which have been
delivering quite unbelievable reports of right wing wins.

Why would we now think that the Democrats would finally act on this issue?

I called Thom Hartmann’s show and asked why the democratic party has not taken up this crime.
He said that he has been trying every way he knows to get them to move on it since 2000.

… since 2000.

We are asking a Dem Party which is just as corrupted as the GOP to stop these methods?

Despite all of the methods used to steal our elections, it seems that ever more new means must
be added.

All this fury and noise to justify our flawed and arcane election system has turned us into a global joke. Trump lost the popular vote by 10.6 million votes, then all the jabbering class wonder why 50% of us don’t vote. The most powerful nation on earth indeed. Let’s go back to hiding under our desks, that’s the solution
