Trump Has Made the 2020 Election a Referendum on Climate Change

John Light

Yesterday, President Donald Trump delivered on years of promises to his supporters and spat in the face of the world by pulling out of the Paris Agreement on climate change. After the announcement, many of our allies publicly denounced the US — but, privately, reacted with relief that the US had cleared the field for countries who take climate change seriously to ramp up their efforts.

Would somebody please tell Mr. Light that we are not allowed to say the words 'climate change' or 'global warming' in America any longer? By decree, this administration joins states like Florida et al in banning the use of those words in official reports etc. Those are prohibited words and he should know better!

Trump has made the 2020 Election a Referendum on Hate, Greed, and Insanity occupying the White House.

“I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris,”: crowed Trump.

Specious argument because if you ignore "Paris" or, rather, the rest of the world, denying the US is a part of this world, what do you think will happen to the citizens of "Pittsburgh"? The ecological crisis affects us all, you obtuse smuck!

Yes, and I should venture to hope that it will also be a referendum first and foremost on reclaiming our home planet from the ravages of systems that abuse and lay waste the ecosystems and, by extension, all the myriad of life forms on this planet. It should be a referendum on Planetary Health care thus making neoliberal policies, capitalism outmoded-nay, harmful- models with which to organize ourselves.

Considering how Murkin elections of at least the past half century have been mostly referendums on fake news issues, "climate change" is much too real an issue to warrant very much attention in a Murkin election.

Shut down Enbridge Line 5!

It's not just the White House – Hate, Greed and Insanity have been in control of the House, Senate and
the Supreme Court for several years.  Behind the scenes they have been in control of our economy and "democracy" for much longer than that.

And we can't afford to wait 'til 2020 — if there's not an uprising in 2018 there may not be another chance for several decades . . .
