Trump Is Nakedly Fragile

Elizabeth Bruenig

Mercy, after all, is a quality of the strong; in his repeated attacks on those with the very least, Trump is most obviously weak.

While many of us were absorbed in the holidays, the Trump administration relaxed Medicare’s penalty protocols by “scaling back the use of fines against nursing homes that harm residents or place them in grave risk of injury.”(Photo: DonkeyHotey/flickr/cc)

I have to chuckle at the absurdity of the political circus these days; if not I’d go stark raving mad. Mercy is the furthest thing from the mind of the policy making crop of sociopaths in leadership roles this season and many more going back decades. Mr Trump’s biggest problem is believing his own bullshit. He’s a legend in his own mind and projects it on others with his constant tweets and speeches of utter nonsense. We could all use some mercy these days as neo-liberal economics ravages all the lower classes of the world, it’s everywhere; even Iran is suffering because of these economic policies. They give lip service to ‘Christian’ morals and principals but act as hypocrites in their actions as they slash and burn institutions and taxes to support the less fortunate among us of which there’s zillions. Get real Mr Trump and do merciful actions that actually help people. Caesar was 2,000 years ago, move on. (I’m guessing that Caesar was not as good as they wrote about him. Romans on a whole were bloody in most of their doings.)

Ummm…let’s not forget that no matter what Trump trumpets, Congress holds the purse strings and creates legislation. They are every bit as creepy and guilty as is the Orc-in-chief.

#4

Will some one rid us of this troublesome beast?

Beautifully written. “The elderly, children, the sick, the poor: All of these are biblical categories of people who are deserving not just of justice — as all people are — but of mercy, as they are especially unable to advocate for themselves and press their interests in the public sphere. … instead of making certain that the weakest people in American society are able to not only exist but thrive, Trump is attacking the relatively meager support they have.”

The democrats didn’t do much better. Had they, and had they put the people first they’d never need to worry about their positions of power (Congress) again. That they didn’t is why Trump was elected. He promised (same as Obama) to right the wrongs against the poor and working class. Is it any wonder that so many have simply given up.

Since Mr. FDRoosevelt Congress has been on a self serving mission of power and did not and does not care what their citizens wish for and need.
Ms Bruenig thank you for your lovely article.

Trumpo the Klown is “derelict” not just in mercy but in every quality that makes us human. This piece of shit has no redeeming qualities at all. The U.S. should be deeply ashamed. We have allowed this heartless, insecure, narcissistic monster to become the most powerful man on Earth.

#8

Agreed. Every one of them needs to have their head separated from their neck.

They’re all a waste of flesh.

None deserve any mercy.

#9

Caesar merciful? Tell that to Vercingetorix. Trump is no Caesar…Nero maybe.

#10

Bad title.

#11

’ But for me, not for thee ’ - seems the dynamic. All configurations among the drumph cabal - like all the other hyper-predatory capitalists not a small part of the machinations are for the purpose of “building a wall” between perpetrator and consequence. A form of “mercy” based on the ‘externalization’ of the costs/consequences.

#12

Caligula?

#13

The problem is the removal within coherently societally beneficial means. The notion of a mafia ‘hitman’ has been institutionalized by predatory capitalism with millions of people left swinging in the breeze wonder what exactly to do about it.

In 55 BC two Germanic tribes, the Tencteri and Usipetes, asked Caesar for asylum and instead of granting it, as he boasted later, his troops massacred 430,000 of them the majority of which were women and children. Some mercy!

“The U.S. should be deeply ashamed. We have allowed this heartless, insecure, narcissistic monster to become the most powerful man on Earth.”

This line could also have applied had Killery been (S)elected. (Of course, it would have been WOMAN)

#16

"Trump is openly a scum-sucking Sociopath" might have been more apt,eh?

#17

Amen! Touché! Right on, brother!

#18

Or Caligula.

#19

To me Caligula was too close in time to Caesar. The empire had plenty of time left. Nero, burn it to the ground is more apt.

It’s the government in general, and the people who vote for these jackoffs.
