Trump’s Reckless Decision Puts US on Path to War with Iran

Trita Parsi

In anticipation of President Donald Trump's announcement that he will withdraw the U.S. from its commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Tuesday, the following is a statement from Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC):

Donald Trump has committed what will go down as one of the greatest acts of self-sabotage in America’s modern history. He has put the United States on a path towards war with Iran and may trigger a wider regional war and nuclear arms race.

In dictatorships one ego-mad malignant person may make decisions based on a whim or un-informed position, or to satisfy some other power, but that ability is NOT supposed to be what happens in a “democracy” or republic!
The words “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” is now apparently inoperative and a joke!

Unfortunately our so-called “representative government” via a Congress, has been turned into a hyper-partisan circus of extremists and corrupt people, that apparently were never schooled in truth, honesty, justice, honor, integrity or common decency, and have no inkling of what makes any nation truly “great” - Oh, and that war is bad, and nuclear war, or the potential for same, insane!

Add in the malignant subversion of a foreign power manipulating US elections, Congress, president, and foreign policy decisions for their own extremist agenda, and the consequences are not only that of an “imperial” fool and ignoramus dictating policy absent rational thought, but a treasonous subversion of our republic!

The mad king trump (a legend in his own mind) makes unilateral decisions based on his fantasy world and arrogant narcissistic mental illness and anyone regardless of political affiliation should see that that ability and penchant to rule by imperial decree is a clear and present danger - a domestic enemy - that puts America and the whole world at grave peril by a fool and extremist mental case…

No More War used to be the chant…I am so sick of war, so is the rest of Earth…Give Peace A Chance.

Yes. This is a dictatorship in all but name anymore. With the Rethugs in control of all 3 branches, and the Dims as useless as tits on a bull, Trump’s unilateral decisions are the law of the land now. Scary as hell.

Trump doesn’t even have a good reason for this move. Iran is in compliance with all aspects of the agreement. It is keeping their nuclear weapons program non-existent. The intrusive inspections regime is being followed to the letter. Trump has only 2 reasons for not wanting it: 1) Obama did it and 2) Israel wants to get rid of it.

So even though it endangers us and US security interests, sets Iran on the path to nuclear weapons, and makes us bigger pariahs on the world stage - fuck it. Trump wants it, so it is happening.

They will as soon as Peace becomes more profitable than war. So don’t get your hopes up.

You know what is the most aggravating part about this decision? People are already somehow framing this action as confirming Russiagate, since a nuclear Iran will be better for Russia apparently… Geez I am glad I’m leaving the country for a week tonight. I have about had it with all this idiocy.

“Not only has Trump opened a pandora’s box of consequences in the region, we now know the administration hired the private Israeli intelligence firm Black Cube to target former U.S. officials who supported the agreement.”

Okay, but much Trump’s US christer base has all sorts of eschatological fantasies about the Levant, and Persia (Iran). This is the wingnutter Palin land.

And of course in her time as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton did a good deal to undermine proto-versions of this Iran nuclear deal. She then lied about her obstructionism during her losing primary and presidential campaigns of 2015/16.

Our representative government represents firstly the politicians themselves, the oligarchs, then Israel, AIPAC, arms manufacturers, and Saudi Arabia, and finally, if it’s OK with the above, the political base.

The nation-wide Resistance Movement is going to have to re-tool and become an anti-war movement–As such it is bound to grow in scope and numbers–We should get ahead of this inevitability and anti-war demos should be planned now!

The headline of this article illustrates a large part of the problem. In an age of potential mass extinction via nuclear war, no one man should possess the ability to put one nation on the path to war with another. It is utter insanity that we should allow this to happen. The people don’t want war. Why do we keep letting it happen. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there are just too many people who see war-making as part of our nature. Two horrid world wars weren’t enough to convince the human race that war and the pain and suffering it causes have run their course and should never be visited again. What if all the giraffes of the world formed into little groups and started killing each other off? We’d say they had gone insane! Maybe we’re insane as a race, quarantined and contained by the galactic community while we self-destruct. OK, that’s a little out there but if Mr. “Why have nuclear weapons if you can’t use them” Trump gets his way we may never know if we are alone in the cosmos. I’m betting that the Iranians and Israelis make peace, as the Koreas appear to be trying to do and Trump et. al. will have to go foment their vile warmongering elsewhere again! However, if a regional war does happen, there is always the hope mentioned by another poster on another related article, which I interpreted like this:

"If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive,........."

                                           (from the book of Matthew)

Donald Trump’s supersized ego has put the world on the path to nuclear holocaust. Everyone considers Kim Jong-un and his nuclear ambitions dangerous. Donald Trump and his ignorant
“diplomacy” is ten times so. The United Nations should be imposing sanctions on America, not Iran.
