Since the advent of the Trump administration, American progressives have been aghast at its narrow, nationalist approach to world affairs. But many of them should also be uneasy at the American establishment’s defense of its more traditional foreign policy.
I don’t think the New World Order crowd is going to like this article. Maybe Wittner hasn’t heard that UN agenda 21 is really a plan to take over the world. He should brush up on right wing conspiracies theories before offering this type of alternative.
One major impediment is that Trump’s base desperately needs to have a dog to kick, that is to which to feel superior. Immigrants, people of color or alternative lifestyles, etc. fit the bill within the country, but his “America First” slogan implicitly relegates all other nations as America’s metaphorical dog in the minds (tiny as they are) of his base. Trump’s only viable card from his standpoint is nationalism. To acquiesce to planetary realities is political death for him. Additionally, he really is just a boy emperor in his (tiny little) mind–and it shows.
It does no good to expand the powers of the UN, as long as the Security Council is dominated by imperial powers that have the Bomb. That’s a real problem.
We go through this stupid charade of asking what is the foreign policy of incoming presidents. US foreign policy should be based on INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM. Of course though INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM doesn’t exist in the US. We grow up being told everyone should have goals, yet when it comes to the war machine the goal is all about PROFIT.
The UN could use direct online democracy to overrule oligarchs and theocrats:
the security council is exactly the problem. Never could believe they pulled that one off.
