'Unconscionable' and 'Shocking': Trump's Head of NOAA Proposes Axing 'Climate' and 'Conservation' From Agency's Mission

Jessica Corbett, staff writer

The Trump-appointed acting director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration—which plays a key role in monitoring the global climate crisis—has reportedly proposed stripping "conservation" and "climate" from NOAA's mission statement, which scientists say "would undermine the agency's vital work on behalf of the American people."

Are all of the Trump appointees taking “Stupid” pills, or do they really mean to kill us and our planet prematurely?

#3

To protect lives and property, empower the economy, and support homeland and national security.

Sea level rise, property values dump and vast wastelands are created with wet empty houses. A threat to national security, so NOAA becomes part of the Coast Guard or Navy to protect what is now garbage???

This redoing mission statements, gutting rules and reg.‘s, combining agencies all have one goal. To remake amurika into Trumpville. King for life. Juan Coles’ article today spells it out really well. Oh, I forgot the move to make it so only white republicans with property can vote. Fascism is alive and well.

Thank gawd for the 6th extinction!

Yes, and yes

Science? We don;t need no stinkin science!

The first thing that came to my mind when reading this article is the Seven Generations sustainability and the moral responsibility of each generation.

Seven Generation Sustainability
Seven generation stewardship is a concept that urges the current generation of humans to live and work for the benefit of the seventh generation into the future. It originated with the Iroquois – Great Law of the Iroquois – which holds appropriate to think seven generations ahead (about 140 years into the future) and decide whether the decisions they make today would benefit their children seven generations into the future. It is frequently associated with the modern, popular concept of environmental stewardship or ‘sustainability’ but it is much broader in context (see the quotation below relative to “in ALL of your deliberations …”.

“In every deliberation, we must consider the impact on the seventh generation… even if it requires having skin as thick as the bark of a pine.”
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_generation_sustainability

The Seven Generations concept totally nullifies the principles of corporate capitalism and state imperialism in which natural resources and the protection of those natural resources are provided to mankind for one purpose only … PROFIT. Greed and selfishness are honorable traits under capitalism. Hence, why in the world would the protection of Mother Earth and its natural resources matter to the corporate capitalists or to their imperialist masters and protectors?

The war on Nature is accelerating and much more visible now that Trump is in charge.
All along our species has achieved its godlike civilization by plundering, exploiting, using up, and otherwise harming the biosphere, while enslaving and killing billions of innocent animals.
Consumer capitalism can only thrive when more and more humans consume and pollute more and more.
Now we’ve reached a tipping point, and Trump (a developer) is making no attempt to hide his “humans-first” agenda.
Sadly, all of us are slaves on the petroindustrial plantation, and it would be hard if not impossible for us to un-build the mass extinction grid we all count on.
It is now only a matter of whether we will kill the biosphere within the next 40 years, or 140 years.
As Trump, Pruitt, the Kochs and all the ghouls ramp up the war on Mother Nature, we may well see the culminating ecocide within our lifetimes.
RIP wilderness, species diversity, peace and quiet, natural beauty, blue skies, whales and dolphins, clean air and water, etc.

We are moving into some kind of pre-Galilean dark ages:

Here are some of the inconvenient truths that NOAA collects, analyses and publishes:

They don’t need to take the pills.

#10

Well Jacques Cousteau reckoned it would be 50/100/150 years max before planet earth is totally destroyed. At the rate of things we are seeing now I will go for the lower figure.

#12

He was a great man, and like other pioneering environmentalists, would be in mourning if he saw what has happened to the biosphere now.

#13

Could stripping of NASA of its role in climate research be far behind. The way Trump is going China will soon be the world leader in climate research and just about everything else the US has led in. Xi must be celebrating over this one if he isn’t exhausted from celebrating from all of Trump’s previous stupid moves that have diminished the US. Trump and the his racist minions keep giving and giving, at least from the prospective of China which has been dreaming of being a world leader again but probably never imagined the US would just voluntarily give up its role of leadership and step aside.

#14

Next up, the Hurricane Center, probably won’t need them either. What could go wrong ?

#15

If the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s mission is not about recording variations in climate and promoting conservation to combat global upheaval in climate, then what are they for? To tell us when it’s going to rain? Grandpa’s lumbago can do that. The Trump administration’s war on science is so incredibly self destructive, ignorant and downright stupid, it makes me wonder how they found the brains to make their way to Washington after the election.

#16

Yes and yes and yes.

#17

Correct the 6th mass extinction event is well underway. The fact that most don’t want to see it or admit it doesn’t really matter. Collapse is coming, ecological, financial, industrial, other ways too. I didn’t think I’d live long enough to see it when I graduated high school. Well it’s here now in all its gory specter.(extinction)

#18

Wow, what a stupid man. How can he observe and predict what’s going on with the the atmosphere and oceans without taking climate change into account?
Maybe he should spend some time in Puerto Rico, or visit South Africa and see an iceberg break loose and arrive in that nation with a couple of Adele penguins riding along on he iceberg.
Maybe he will get a special phone booth like Mr. Pruitt, but this will be a scientific one–with its own atmosphere inside. So, he could sit inside and feel what 550 ppm of co2 is like. Or—figure out how long does it take for a human to die and what is the exact temperature and length of time needed to produce death under the conditions. This will give him some scientific experience ----kind if like the Darwin Awards----and so—not to worry because in no time, he’ll be removed form the gene pool.

It’s worth mentioning again and again, denial of climate change is a form of warfare with genocidal results. The filthy rich are planning an extermination of the human population of 10 billion by 2050 as a problem they are addressing with a final solution. Auchtung mein fuehrer heard again. Hitler lives in Trump.

#20

Not, if we exterminate them first.
