United States: An Obituary

Only if you want to create mass death and social upheaval, followed by never ending border conflicts, terrorism, and ethnic cleansing. India and Pakistan are still dealing with that mess.

Really total BS!

As long as the U.S. doesn’t start lobbing nukes in its death throes at least.

Seeing the election fall apart in real time again, a pandemic sweeping the globe and economic depression that our lawmakers are doing NOTHING about, and said lawmakers not even doing the most simplest popular thing like holding our murderous police accountable, I have no faith that the U.S. will recover, nor does it deserve to. Let it all burn. Worst case scenario, the biggest threat to world peace will be left in ashes. Best case scenario, something more approaching a fair society will emerge.

Americans as a whole have been indoctrinated to believe in revisionist history. As a European, the constant pledging, flag waving and belief that as Americans they are better than everone else and the brainwashing of American children to believe that theirs is the greatest country in the world is disturbing, damaging, dangerous and factually incorrect. That’s how someone like trump has been able to infiltrate and create a new party. One of divisinvess and hate. The type of party that was defeated along with Hitler by the US and Allied forces on D Day. It’s time for change, time to teach history, own it…ALL of it… so that we can avoid repeating it. Yes, we should all be proud but not arrogant.

Agreed, but we have our hands full with American corporations. Topical example: the cruise ship industry. Even though it is public knowledge that they are proven virus vectors (established before COVID appeared), and they rely on heavy fuel oil (with accompanying high GHG emissions), and are also known to (discreetly or not) dump waste into oceans and waterways - nevertheless, their operation is allowed to continue. Icing on the cake: the “president” bailed them out. Behind all of the willful malaise is the sanctity of the artificial entity known as the corporation.

“Perhaps it is time for the Peoples of Earth to unite in favor of economic democracy and the end of capitalism, the end of predatory corporations, the end of ruling classes.”
In that case, the US obituary would be a good thing cuz’ ts death would bring life ~ a better life for all who live & breathe…walk, fly, swim, crawl, or to just “be”.

I agree with everything you wrote. What’s wrong with this country? Follow the money. The Virginia Company of London, not the pilgrims, set the tone for this nation. Despite all the pretty words, this nation has always been about wealth and it’s pursuit, screw the common good.

Heinberg is really pessimistic in this piece. You can almost hear him say “I hate Trump” several times through it. Yes, President Trump and his administration have many flaws, and our country is going through a very stressful time with various issues–but I’m confident we’ll make it through, as we always have. Anyone can see that Americans on both the left and the right love their country or have passion for it! Where’s Heinberg’s faith, positivity, his gumption? I think he’s too caught up in intellectual ideas and hasn’t done enough to take the pulse of individual Americans. The Democratic leadership has its faults too: the endless Russian collusion investigation that was always baseless; Pelosi, Schumer and others bowing and scraping in kente cloth for the vote of blacks and others on the left. Heinberg points out the police killing of George Floyd, which was terrible and shouldn’t have happened–but what about the murders of our fine law enforcement personnel, most of whom are good? He also mentions the “days of massive street protests, most of them peaceful”, but doesn’t mention the rioting, looting and destruction by blacks and whites costing in the tens, maybe hundreds, of millions of dollars, and at least 15 people killed during the protests and riots. The U.S. will survive, and pray it will, for what it provides for the world.

With intellectual ideology there is the overthink. Many people who do not like President Trump forget the good he has done. The low unemployment for minorities. The stabilization and growth of the economy, disrupted only by a virus. The turmoil we see, with riots, looting and general mayhem and anarchy, stems from that liberal intellectual ideology. Socialism is part of such an ideology. A successful economy, along with the lowest unemployment in our nation’s history, is a death knell to socialism. Many do not like President Trump’s “swagger”, or abundance of confidence. They criticize his tweets. His hair. His pomposity, because they can’t attack him on what he’s done. The insanity is thinking that someone who shows signs of dementia, is a gateway for whomever is picked as a vice presidential candidate.
America may be in decline, but it will be because of blatant immorality. It will be because we have issued a dare to the Creator of all things, God, that we will push the limits of immorality and convenience and challenge Him to stop us. Because we, the human race have become the narcissistic end all of all things. It is because we have become lazy as voters. Few know the beliefs of those who run for public office. We vote entirely on party lines. We fail to take a stand for the overall benefit of America, while we nitpick for our personal causes. We stand against those who protect us and stand with those in ivory towers, who have lost their hold onto the real, day to day struggles, of the average American.

Actually there are reams of straightforward legitimate criticism of what he’s done. You are a blind ideologue.

While I agree with most of what you say you fail to mention the largest elephant in the room; Man’s loss of touch with nature. It is at the core of this decline in civilization.

“The stabilization and growth of the economy, disrupted only by a virus.”

An economy where almost all the gains went to Trump’s billionaire and multimillionaire buddies who spent their $1.7 trillion tax cut on bonuses and stock buybacks. An economy with a lot of low wage and crappy jobs with no union protections, while Trump and ALEC moved to destroy what remains of the labor movement. An economy where Trump enabled corporate polluters kill more people and give more kids lead poisoning and leukemia. And now a virus that he openly downplayed failed to respond to, making us a global center of the pandemic and economic collapse for all but the rich and part of the middle class. You and other Trump supporters are driving us over a cliff.

I don’t know if it came from a dream, or just popped into my head yesterday morning, but it left me with a cold chill. The thought was:
** I suppose t- rump’s next act will be to order the Pentagon brass to report to Appomattox in full dress. He will carry a borrowed sword. At the appropriate time, he will present the sword to the Grand Dragon of the KKK and formally surrender the “United States of America” to the “Confederate States of America” and the “war between the states” will finally be over.
** I could look on that as a joke, except I am aware of the caliber of the madman that currently seems to be running the show. It makes me shudder.
