Until He Shows Respect, We Owe Donald Trump Nothing But Resistance

Christian Christensen

A Swedish language version of this article ran today in Aftonbladet, a daily newspaper in Sweden.

Today, Donald John Trump was officially sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America. Trump supporters will argue that, as President, he is deserving of our respect. He won the election, we will be told, and he is our leader, whether we like it or not. It will be argued that all Americans (myself included) should honor the position that the President holds.

Trump didn't just "suggest that Obama was not a US citizen", his repetition on this issue turned it into a fact for Trump's followers and distracted efforts to shine the light on Obama's regressive actions that Trump tacitly supported and continues to support.

Protests are statements, not resistance. On Monday, our more fortunate will punch in at work on time, work hard, and play by all the rules. Our less fortunate will spend another day struggling to obtain adequate food and shelter to survive another day. We'd all love to wage a revolution, but can't risk losing our jobs, knowing there's nothing to fall back on.

We owe him nothing ever - that ship has long-since sailed by his own words and deeds! Respect is not in the orange pigs nature or vocabulary - he is as shallow a creature as can be - only about himself, vulture capitalist exploitation, cronies and accumulating vast wealth as an end in itself, nothing else means anything.
In violation of the Constitution and his oath from minute one!

That's great visionary thinking and planning for 2020 and guaranteed renewal for Trump.
Good Luck with that.
