Venezuelan Government Bars Guaidó From Office for 15 Years Amid US-Backed Coup Attempt

Venezuela's government said Thursday that it has barred opposition leader Juan Guaidó from public office for 15 years as he intensifies his U.S.-backed effort to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro.

And the Russians are making their presence known? What a failed American policy! US policy has been to work against democracy in struggling countries-----WHY? Lift the sanctions on Venezuela and let the COMMON PEOPLE of Venezuela decide their future. The same for Iran. And stop financing Israel until they offer a real deal with the people of Palestine. SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM—SUPPORT THE COMMONS.

Good reasonable and common sense comment, but I think Elliot Abrams, Trump, Pompeo, Pence and Bolton have no intention in spreading any form of representative democracy anywhere.

Because democracy in struggling countries might not be willing toadies to the American corporate fascists.

America is just trying to tell Venezuela it will not stand for them building their country over American resources.

Let Him walk around free, he is losing support, Jailing him would incite the wing-nuts. Watching him fizzle is fun to watch, it also throws egg in Trumps face.

Could you imagine the U.S. banning all of its corrupt Senators for 15 years? What would the Senate pages do all day?

You’re on to something there PaulK.

Banning corrupt politicians for 15 years.

We must get some legislation initiated right away.

Countries that have had sanctions placed on them by the US include Angola, Burundi, Ethiopia and Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Russia, China, Yemen, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Libya, Nigeria, North Korea, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Gaza, Venezuela, and the Former Yugoslavia, just to name a few.

  • If we eliminate Western embargo’s, blockades, seizures, and sanctions, then Socialist countries, and other Non-Democratic countries, would be much better off overall.
If America could refrain from forcibly "saving, bending to our will, or liberating natural resources from” other countries, maybe this world would be a better place to peacefully live in.
**Not everyone wants a Christian Democratic–Plutocracy. ***Stop forcing our ideals on everyone else!!!
There isn’t anything wrong with non-Democratic countries, it’s this multi-phobic country we all live in, starting with our own Government.

In fact we should be leaning more towards a Social Democracy ourselves, instead of the Plutocracy we have now !!!

walk around free from fear of molestation?

Rubio Oh Rubio what fart art thou?

He is a known American puppet by now and will never gain the people’s support.
Arresting him will only give America an excuse, and besides he appears to be doing a good job of discrediting himself.
It is also not unthinkable that some upstanding citizen decides to do the patriotic thing.

The flag of “Isreal” was prominently displayed on stage when Guaido proclaimed he was president. So I’m sure Israel has dozens, if not hundreds, of operatives aiding the attempt to subvert the government. (They’d be skilled at knocking out power grids.)
Wherever the U.S. is struggling with its right-wing agenda, Israel is usually willing to help.

Marco, Marco, Marco.

Let’s stop and think for a moment here.

What if instead of Venezuela, it was the US?

What if instead of Maduro being elected in 2018 it was Marco Rubio winning the GOP nomination in 2016 and then being elected?

What if instead of Guaido being the opposition leader in Congress who never even ran for president suddenly declaring himself the real president, it was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doing that here in the US while you, Marco, were the president? That she leads these massive rallies in DC where she insists she’s the real president and you were elected with fraud?

What if instead of the US backing Guaido in Venezuela in all this it was Russia and China backing AOC here?

What if instead of the government in Venezuela making this decision on Guaido, the Department of Justice ruled that AOC was committing insurrection in attempting to overthrow your presidency and indicted her for that.

What if instead of having AOC arrested, you were compassionate enough to just commute all her punishment except her being ineligible to hold public office according to the 14th Amendment.

Would you still say that was a launching a massive wave of targeted repression? Or would you say that you were just following the law of the land?

US Constitution, Amendment 14, Section 3:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.

It’s good Russia is there because it’s a deterrent to a military invasion by our Sociopath-In-Chief Trump. 15 years without being able to serve in elected office is getting off easy. Hopefully, he’ll have matured if he ever decides to try for elected office again … but I wouldn’t bet on it

He’s a traitor. Would a real dictator just have him barred from office? No, he’d have him shot for treason, like Maduro ought to do, and end this BS once and for all.

If you are suggesting “partners in crime”, AMEN.
