"Vindictive": CODEPINK Activist Who Laughed During Jeff Sessions' Hearing to Face New Trial

Andrea Germanos, staff writer

CODEPINK activist Desiree Fairooz, who was arrested after laughing during Attorney General Jeff Sessions' confirmation hearing, will face a second trial this fall after she rejected a plea deal on Friday.

" Is it fascism now" ?.Desiree Fairooz.

Of course the answer is yes! And from my point of view, the only difference is America’s totalitarianism was inverted under Bush and Obama but it is no longer inverted under Trump.

#3

She has organizational support and a lot of resources. Imagine a lone citizen doing this. She would have already been convicted. Unbelievable though.

#4

Given that she was offered “time served”, and she rejected it, she’s out to prove a point. If you’re standing on principle, expect to go to trial again and don’t be surprised when the other side doesn’t give you what you want.

#5

Why will the other side come at you again?
For a laugh?
Or for you not bowing down to a bully who wants to imprison you for a laugh?

#6

The USA has finally gone completely and irreversibly insane under the Trump administration. These “leaders” are so starved for adulation and obedience from the citizens that they literally cannot handle someone laughing at them. And then to put that person on trial for laughing shows their depravity. Hitler would be proud of anyone serving in the Trump administration. Seriously folks, the USA has gone even beyond insane now.

#7

Mr. Jeff Sessions, for you: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee, hee. Ha, ha, hee, hee, ho, ho, giggle, giggle.

So silly.

#8

Because “winning” and “making a statement” is just as important to them as it is to her.

#9

And just what is “winning” to them and what “statement” are they making? The only statement they are making is how insane and insecure and intolerant they are. They are the ones who need to be on trial as they turn the USA into a totalitarian state.

#10

CodePink should organize a day of laughter at Sessions across the USA.

#11

How can a judge let this go back to trial?
The waste of everyone’s time and money is ridiculous. Drop the gavel and let this woman get back to her life. This is the level a goof like Jeffery Beauregard Sessions WOULD go to, just to be vindictive.

#12

So she is supposed to go through life with a conviction because the prosecutor is a jerk?

#13

This travesty is on the judge, who should have tossed this case out. Once the government concedes that the arrest was without probable cause, there is nothing left to the case. An element of the crime of resisting arrest is that the officer was acting lawfully at the time. Remonstration at an unlawful arrest cannot be itself a crime. She would have been justified to lay on the floor and refuse to cooperate with her removal. Forget the tools in the prosecutor’s office. The judge should have gotten rid of this case.

#14

The “principle” she is standing on is that innocent people shouldn’t be convicted of crimes just because the government magnanimously agrees not to imprison them.

#15

Poor widdle Jeffie. Is peoples Waffing at hims?

#16

You’ll have to ask “them”. But if something is important to you you should assume that it is likewise important to your opponent

The Keebler Elf is one mean little Mother Clucker!

His time will come.

The sorrowfully beautiful juxtaposed beside the most repulsively cruel.

#19

I would give you 10 hearts for such serene logic. It soothes my brain to know others feel the same, but can express in a way that maybe I can not.

#20

Well said. But of course “yes” TPTB expect we little ones not to stand up for ourselves, or others.
