Ironic that after Jimmy Carter spent many of his 20th century post-POTUS years monitoring rigged elections in third world nations around the world, subsequent to the dawn of the 21st century the US has been second to none among nations having corrupt elections.
We are bound neither to the present proto-fascist moment; nor to the immediate past repressive neoliberal corporatist duopoly; nor even to the deeper past US white supremacist hegemony.
We are bound to our own future, our own agency, our own possibility, and to live with the vision of this future as we labor to bring it into being.
Ironically, David Carroll of the Carter Center claims it would be almost impossible for the center to monitor elections here because of our “patchwork of about 10,000 individual jurisdictions across 50 states with no centralized election administration”. They are also worried about the perception of bias because the center was formed by a Democratic President. They are going to try this cycle, it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
