I monitor this closely and they ALWAYS make a firm commitment, to meet again next year.
All kinds of people need to fly less! Especially business. Haven’t they heard of ZOOM? Or–is that just for ," We the little people?"
Here is “Walking Communities of 2040” essay Part IV (Land-use and development reform)
Part IV challenges municipal planning assumptions based on the principles of New Urbanism summed up as “mixed-use infill transit-oriented development.” Adherents of this planning philosophy herald high density housing as a principal means to reduce traffic.
Rather than density, “diversity” a ‘diverse’ mix of uses within walkable distances along transit corridors is closer to the principles of New Urbanism. High density housing without such “diversity” removes land area for other productive uses. When homes, apartments, whole neighborhoods are constructed to be isolated long distances from workplace, grocery and general stores, schools, parks, medical facilities, public amenities, then furnishings of modern urban/suburban life are made impossibly hectic with traffic.
A simple study of marketing models like Costco, Walmart, Amazon decisively concludes: Were such retail regional distributors to serve local retailers, the shorter distances their customers routine drives reduce overall fuel/energy consumption, air polluting toxics and insane traffic more than 85%. (it’s a whole new definition of “routine”)
What I mean is something like stop driving our damn cars all the damn time. Flying, trucking, shipping, motorboater fishers, skiers, dragsters, snowmobile tourists, electric scooter sidewalk futurists, Pick up Yours or Our trash. Let’s not leave behind nothin like that.
Hard for the little people to get heard – whether nationally or internationally.
We may be further down the line on the climate chopping block than Pacific Islanders, but we all share the same planet.
‘List of horrors’ throughout the world. Just step outside where you live and really take in your surroundings. You will see/hear/smell and feel how ecosystems are collapsing.
I had to travel a few hours through the state of Wisconsin recently---- what I saw was horrific.
SO much traffic---- jamming the highways and back roads (with me in the mix: guilty)
I would say 60% of trees (or more) are sick, dying, no fall color, lilacs blooming in October!
Death/dying everywhere apparent and people are CLUELESS. Utterly clueless.
I think: perhaps not dwelling on the dying is better; just go about traveling, consuming etc. etc. and not think about it?
But that is NOT OK imo.
It is the strangest thing I have ever witnessed----the disconnect from what is happening all around---- so many people living in denial.
It’s surreal to see solar panels filling the landscape juxtaposed next to dying trees.
Solar panels will not bring the trees back to life. (and no, I am not against solar panels)
Solar panels will not stop what is happening in the Pacific Islands and everywhere on earth.
The fact that we still have to beg for small changes (which won’t even stop the problem of AGW/habitat destruction!) is surreal ----- like the worst nightmare one could imagine.
