‘We Were Proven Right,’ Says AOC After Amazon Expands in New York Without Taking Billions in Public Cash. Love you OAC! But I am still waiting for all the people that said you were costing people “good jobs”! Where is the apology? We know if anyone expects it I would tell them if they are holding their breath they will have to change their names to…BLUE BOY.

Way to go AOC. Of course the suckers in Virginia-including their retarded Governor- fell for the Amazon scam and are subsidizing Bezo’s HQ in Crystal City. Crystal City is already saturated with the Military Industrial Complex. Although it is on two parallel North/South subway lines, no E/W until you get into DC; street traffic can be a nightmare, as is true for all of N. Virginia near DC.
N. Virginia is rapidly becoming a city planning nightmare; it could be used in city planning courses as a good bad example.

Of course they want a presence in NYC. They just wanted to be paid for being there.

Hey, 1500 employees is still better than nothing. 25000 and some real estate investment would have been even better.

That AOC photo with her tweet…priceless! Either she is a comeback genius or she has some really sharp PR people working for her. Probably a bit of both!

For those of us in Washington State, this is an example our electeds should have followed for decades regarding Amazon — not giving them any incentives whatsoever.

The good news is that NY did not cave. The bad news given the behavior of Bezos and his minions, is that Amazon is “expanding”.

Good point!

And the 1,500 is better than the actual 700 Amazon offered alongside a bullshit “10-20 year” projection of 25,000. Only a sucker would believe Amazon even after being proven wrong. Of course, if a commenter is hellbent on diminishing a well-played hand by AO-C, then they’ll resort to spewing nonsense.

I recall writing many years ago that now that big business have tapped every possible income source they could, that there was only one great pile of money remaining to exploit…
The public coffers.
Most people don’t realize that nearly 1of every 3 dollars spent in the US comes from federal, state, and local governments. When you consider that the US economy regularly sees nearly 19 trillion dollars pass hands every year, you being to see why big businesses want the biggest slice of pie. Of course the military industrial complex has been profiting for years. However, now nearly all government services are being privatized (nearly 80% of “government” jobs created since Reagan are through private companies) and much of Medicare and Medicaid are now being privatized. Even our foot soldiers are private contractors.
We are now witnessing the other side of this scam playing out, in the form of tax “abatements” and just flat out tax forgiveness. Big businesses move their retail sites and office headquarters every five years in search of the next tax avoidance scheme. They pay no taxes while using up local public resources, and then like locusts, move on to the next fertile field to exploit.
I live in western PA where we have been taken advantage of by these hustlers for generations. It started in retail with malls that were built on the cheap that are now closed, replaced by shopping plazas that were also built tax free. The public has financed four stadiums and arenas in Pittsburgh, all refused by tax payers, yet built anyway, for teams that collect all the revenue and transfers all liabilities to the public (the wealthy owners of the Steelers are crying for stadium upgrades already, on the pubic dole of course). And now the Frackers and pipelines who have paid little to no taxes and fees, yet have destroyed our local infrastructure. All this in a city like Pittsburgh where 1/3rd of the properties are untaxed because they are owned by the government, universities, or local hospitals.
Taxes are lower. Tax collections are down. And the infrastructure is crumbling.

When the local politicos here in the Pittsburgh area were putting together a tax giveaway package to try and lure Amazon here a year ago I talked to friends of ours in Seattle who shared one harbinger with me.
Don’t let these people in the door. (I believe his exact words were, they will clog up the toilets, insult your wife, steal the silverware and kick the dog)
But you get the gist.

I appreciate AOC’s and others’ efforts and I like AOC’s Dec 6th tweet, but dare I say, the Dec 7th one, with the photo, seems kind of silly and childish (to me).

I’m glad to hear that Amazon isn’t getting the tax breaks, but the fact that they’re expanding and are moving in anyway is concerning. And then there’s Facebook…

Yes, socialism for the wealthy and their licensed to kill sadistic psychopath protector hired gun cops is just fine but not when it comes to caring for the needy who deserve our help.
