I don’t mean to deny that Phyllis Bennis is well informed and reasonably oriented. But this is some very in-house criticism. It pulls punches that can easily be delivered and should.
Biden is not engaging in violence in Israel because he needs to heal the US. He’s not healing the US.
Biden inherited US policy towards Israel from Trump as Trump inherited it from Obama as Obama inherited it from Bush, and as somewhere back past Ezekiel the Allies begat these policies at Potsdam in '45 and put the baby on Harry Truman’s doorstep along with a lot of Nazi operatives to play caretaker. The policies are not all about Israel, but all about Israel within the context of maintaining an Anglo-Germanic Western empire, with the Anglo commanding.
Of course, Biden’s stance is losing popularity with Americans, too, and Bennis applies her history well to perceive that it will become still less popular. But we cannot really afford to pull these punches and talk between ourselves as though Joe were a well intentioned meathead and not a criminal warmonger with a rap sheet going back to the 1970s.
No, the muddle is the good part of all this. Biden is bell-clear that he is as fine with Palestinian deaths as with–gee, let’s pull out a map:
- Yemeni deaths
- Syrian deaths
- Somalian deaths
- Libyan deaths
- Venezuelan deaths
- Ukrainian deaths
- Iraqi deaths
- Honduran deaths
- Pakistani deaths
- Afghani deaths
- Iraqi deaths
And the various deaths in Latin American countries that come from American manipulation of the drug market and penetration of the various governments thereby,
and the various deaths that are occasioned by the lack of social policies that Biden has favored over the decades.
These articles that favor a nod towards humane policy as a campaign strategy for the criminal class frustrate to the point of itching. We will hear the same sorts of excuses and apologia towards getting us to vote Blue no matter what in '24, and it 's easy enough to predict that the Republicans are not going to draft a Bernie Sanders any more than are the Democrats, so truth, peace, and social programs are effectively off the ballot.
It means that the government is past polite conversation, whet her the rest of us are or not.
