What Matters More than the NRA’s Money

Another disturbed young man with a high-powered weapon. Another massacre. And once again, the question: Why, with polls showing broad majorities of Americans favoring tighter restrictions on who can purchase firearms and what types of weaponry that can be offered for sale, have lawmakers refused to act?


So yes, let's rouse the passion. The problem, of course, is that tolerance is never as noisy as hatred. And emotional disturbance that latches onto hatred is so hard to see before it erupts. As has been noted, though, the Orlando shooting was aimed at a national community that has great passion and challenges lawmakers in particular who are mostly hard-pressed to speak against them.
